Currently running into an issue where even with this set to disabled, users are getting logged off if the profile is already mounted instead of a temp profile. VDA 2402 CU2. Anybody else seen this? @Wayne Liu @Jian Song

Hi friends. I keep getting asked by management about profile containers and why when users log in the storage space on our file server goes down. I tried explaining that it creates a RW container when auser logs in, and then merges it into the regular vhdx when they log off, which is why the free space on the file server hosting the profiles changes. Is there any blog or diagram or anything out there someone remembers that would explain this better than I can?

The documentation says this features does NOT apply to citrix profile CONTAINERS. if that's true, is there any way to remove appdata\local\temp from all user profile containers after making policy change to exclude that directory from CPM?

Hey all! I’m looking to do a large implementation of CPM w containers , replacing FSLogix where the customer was not using multiple paths or cloud cache. I’ve used replicate user stores with CPM streamed profiles , but not with CPM containers. Any 🙉 🐵 business or caveats I should be aware of that aren’t documented in the below doc ? Looks like the UPM policy "Accelerate folder mirroring" is now ENABLED by default with VDA 2507. This is causing me issues with Teams launching on new VDA 2507 profiles. Teams doesn't seem to want to provision and never launches. Setting "Accelerate folder mirroring" to disabled allows new 2507 profiles to launch Teams again. Anyone have similar experiences with this setting?

We're migrating from fslogix to cpm. in fslogix there was a metadata file created at the root of the vhdx that you could open with notepad and it would show you the VDA where is was last mounted. anything similar exist with cpm?

Ahead of some prod work for a customer, I'm doing some testing with CPM w containers on my lab, using regular ADMX to push the policies to a Win 11 2FH2 / 2507 VDA. For now, my setup is pretty basic, containers for profile/outlook, not enabled for OneDrive. Logon times are very low, less than 15 seconds. I'm using RDP to test, as my CTX home lab is no longer licensed , AFAIK, testing CPM doesn't require a brokered ICA logon from DDC / Cloud Connector , maybe I'm wrong? Base profile sizes were at about 1.4 GB, so, obviously, I needed to adjust the list of excluded folders. As per the docs from Citrix here , the CPM container profile is set to include all data via the "*" option ; shown below, and, this should allow you to filter out folders via the folder exclusion list, but, that's not working. The sub folders i've chosen to NOT be included in CPM container for MS edge & MS teams aren't being obeyed. I'm checking by mounting the profile container after log off with an offline VHDX + WizTree. Anyone seen this on 2507? I've not touched CPM w containers since it was introduced, and didn't have this issue (if memory serves)

Has anyone seen "The parameter is incorrect" when trying to open UWP apps? We are currently testing MCS provisioned Windows 11 (VDA 2411) + UPM containers. This only seems to happen with certain UWP apps like Teams, Terminal and Snipping Tool. Others like Notepad and calculator work without issues.

I have a odd issue where logon is suddenly stuck here (seems frozen), can happen every second logon. VDA 2507 and Win11 24H2 (non-persistant).

Hello, using CPM 2507 on W25. 1. I enabled the caching for container, at logon it seems to copy the files locally based on the log. Main reason for me is too keep the profile IOPS on the worker' SSD. That's how it works right? 2. I am aiming for a small VHDX, about the size of my current file based UPM, 100MB ish, I can go higher if really needs be. Reason for the container is to speed up logon and log off but on point 1. because local copy, I had a 40sec for tbe copy but profile was 1GB, so no let a great test. Question is anyone doing this ? I know a lot here use container and they don't care about the space but I think we can have a sweet spot here especially with UPM and that's what I am looking for. I don't see a need for a 10GB profile tbh. 3. Last we use FSL for ost, I wonder if I should have all in one container but at the same time, FSL in its own share is handy so you can use different storage and backup policy. What are you doing? Hi all! Setting up a new environment for a customer and I am curious about if I should go with UPM? Been using Fslogix ever since it appeared basically, but I hear good things about UPM so maybe I should try it for a change...? Customer use only published apps. Haven't worked with UPM since before the containerization feature, so I am not up to date on the up/down sides nowadays.

Has anyone had issues with updated VDA 2507 and its PM component in an environment where session roaming is disabled? First user session to the same machine works and user can log off without any issues. If they would open the first session and when the second session is launches it reaches the VM but gets closed instantly. Now when the "first" session is logged off it keeps c:/users/user#/appdata/local/microsoft/credentials locked and no amount of elevation will be able to touch it. When server is restarted it goes away.

Is there any way to mount the UPM vhdx files? When we used FSLogix i used frx for this, and from what i've seen, Citrix doesn't have any equivalent software. I've tried manually mounting the vhdx using disk management, but i'm getting access denied despite having full access to the disk. It's no problem mounting the disks while the user is signed on to a terminal server, but sometimes we need to view the contents of a vhdx file while a user is not online

What is everyone using for UPM these days? containers, file based? Any good best practice documents besides Carl's for UPM?

How is everyone handling Teams 2.0 in CPM? My biggest issue right now is profile size, and the requirement to mirror AppData\Local\Packages in its entirety (per https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/profile-management/2507-ltsr/how-to/enable-new-teams-roaming#required-settings-for-the-file-based-profile-solution) is a big one. Has anyone tried only mirroring specific folders in Packages, like just the MSTeams folder?

Have an interesting one today. Windows 11, MCS, 2507... They are having odd lockup and Outlook issues with FSLogix so we thought we'd try UPM (Containers). Those issues went away but we're now having this thing where notepad launches with an un-hidden desktop.ini file... every session launch; same image as that used for FSLogix so I know it's not the image. Tried excluding the desktop.ini from being in the container - but before I just go back in time and go with the file-based solution... thought I'd ask around here if anyone's seen this strangeness and what was done to fix it? Oh - and we tried deleting the file from the image, things like that...

Found the issue myself this morning. Citrix case still open with the escalation engineer. The issue is that the compacting is done through impersonation with the computer account. But the computer accounts do not have permissions on our VHDX containers. Not sure if this is by design (probably). Updated the case and waiting for the response. @Nick Panaccio fyi... Maybe worth looking in the same direction?!

I'm curious if anyone using UPM with the full containers has been using the feature to write the profile to multiple shares? I have a discussion about this coming up soon so I was curious for any real-world usage of the feature. Normally, I'd just use something to sync but this is a 24/7 operation with a fair amount of user accounts in play... and trying to segment the storage with a solution I helped come up with a long LONG time ago (AD attributes to determine a primary share location) would be difficult to implement here... especially with containers instead of files. So the theory is good enough but I've never done something like this with full containers. Anyone done it? How did it scale?

Hello there, we are using Citrix UPM on random non persistent VDI's with Office 365. i'm thus using SharedComputerLicensing key on the vdi's and as stated in https://support.citrix.com/external/article/CTX216129/office-365-activation-error-cannot-verif.html we are excluding Licensing folders... but users need to logon everytime on Microsoft, and sometimes they receive that error window how do you configure it on your side ? is that CTX216129 outdated now ? do you change the licensing folder with the SCLCacheOverride and SCLCacheOverrideDirectory keys ?

Working with a customer using 2402 UPM, i wanted to see this 1. Check the profile processing time in the Citrix Profile Management log file. In the Profile Management log file at C:\Windows\System32\Log Files\User Profile Manager, locate the entry starting with DispatchLogonLogoff. The following example shows that the logon processing time is 10.22 seconds. DispatchLogonLogoff: ---------- Finished logon processing successfully in [s]: <10.22>. Does anyone have this time in their UPM logs, the dispatchlogonlogoff times? I don't have another customer using UPM at the moment to check against.

@Alexander Faller: On your Teams PWA deployment, how are you getting around having a dozen startup apps also launch with Teams? Are you just disabling ShellBridge?

Native Outlook Experience Hi everyone I use Native Outlook Experience with Windows 2025 and CVAD 2507. I put the EnablePerUserCatalog and I observe errors in application event logs for Outlook and Search Index. I don't know if those error impacts users. Does anyone use native Outlook experience ? Do you observe the same ?

Hey all. Been tracking an issue in my lab. My Windows 11 machines keep getting a BSOD. When checking the memory dump it seems that devicecensor.exe is crashing on UPMAction.sys. This started on the 2603 EAR and released build. But only on Windows 11. Server 2025 is rock solid. I am putting this under profile management as it references UPM. But it could also be from WEM as I use that for my GPO, Registry, and UPM Configuration.

Citrix UPM containers....search index roaming for Outlook. Does turning this on provide some extra functionality? I thought the Outlook search would roam if the profile was configured to capture everything, or am I missing something?

we somewhat recently moved many of our customers from FSLogix to UPM. we might have not realized it at first, but I think we are having a lot of problems with users' registry - their NTUSER.DAT files essentially get reset, so their sessions' AppData is ok but registry isn't right. and so you often hear complaints of "temp profile" although I don't think that's really accurate. the VHDX attaches with their existing AppData, but with new NTUSER.DAT. and so we roll back the VHDX and it's good. but I see how FSLogix and UPM handle this differently. we use CrowdStrike, and I see Citrix has a long list of files and paths to do CrowdStrike SVE (Sensor Visibility Exception) on... our standard has been to not use SVE's as it is higher risk - but I'm curious if others have done that
