Gift giving question. My adult child is wanting a 3D printer as a present. Any recommendations\thoughts for a first time hobby printer?

Any Bambu Lab printer in your price range, honestly. I have a P1S combo and just upgraded to an H2S, and never seriously considered another brand.

the p1s was on sale for a great price at best buy recently. hard to pass up if you dont care about the lockin
I ordered the Anycubic Kobra S1 Max. I wanted a bigger build volume and engineering material capability without the bambu tax. Hoping I dont regret it because bambu is truly plug in and print

Yes, and if you've got a PayPal account, check your Rewards tab for the 20% cash back offer. Active it, then buy the P1S Combo with it (from anywhere) to get up to $250 cash back (up to $1250).
Damn, $1100 for the S1 Max and two AMS units. That's great for such a large build volume

Thank you for the insight. This is not an a space I play in.

It will be once you try his new printer out...

As an owner of Prusa and Bambu Labs: if it needs to be simple: Bambu wins. Hands down

Used to have Ender 5 PRO and 5 PLUS - switch to Bambu X1C and Crealty K2 Plus - and must say they are both extreme well tuned and works without any issues

My H2S has been running practically 24/7 since I got it.

The 0.4mm high flow nozzle has been excellent, and that dual AMS 2 Pro riser printed relatively quickly using ELEGOO Rapid PETG. Really can't say enough good things about this printer, and I loved my old P1S. Also, I don't know if I'll ever go back to metal PEI plates. This BIQU Frostbite plate is just absurd, and I can run it 20+° colder than a traditional plate.

I did end up selling one of my old AMS units with the P1S to a friend because I couldn't think of a scenario in which I'd actually need 16 slots. I've never printed more than 8, and 12 seems unrealistic for the stuff I print anyway. Gave him a good deal on it, too.
