I have a requirement to deliver printer mappings for users according to their Client IP address. This will start with about 80 different subnets, but may grow in the future. I am accomplishing the requirement by creating print actions and assigning them to "Assignment groups". My assignment groups contain the printer actions and are assigned to 'Domain Users" with a Filter based upon client IP. What scares me about this setup is the assignment and filter. What it means is WEM will evaluate hundreds of print actions for a given user because all users are in Domain Users and eventually map a couple printers based upon client IP. Is there the potential I will cause WEM to choke evaluating actions when a user is logging on or refreshing actions? Is there a better way you go about a scenario like this?

That shouldn't be a problem, as the subnet is identified during the login process. I also saw that Device Trust can do that now too, so if users might be roaming from subnet to subnet, that would allow for in session changes to new printers.

I look at logs to make sure this all working correct and can see warnings generated for each printer assigned to domain users. The warning is simply the filter rule is returned false. From a troubleshooting aspect, boy does it fill up the WEM agent log.

Functionally this should be fine, I’m not sure at what point wem will start impacting the login times - it’ll be large scale though. If you have any way to limit the assignment scoping to a smaller group subset it might be wise, else you are hitting every user regardless of the need (maybe they all have the need and it’s irrelevant - just a thought) Long live follow me print queues :-)

Yeah not digging that I have to do this either. If I had it may way there would be some sort of print release software and a single queue, or users would have to choose the printer they want. I'm finding out there's no easy way to export and import the printer assignments in Cloud WEM for other configuration sets.
