Hello, pretty basic question, while setting up citrix cloud, we have to setup a company.cloud.com url mandatory and another custom workspace url. Is the company.cloud.com netscaler gateway url and the custom url is storefront url? What is the difference between netscaler gateway service url and workspace url in citrix cloud? Also, why do we need to setup company.cloud.com url and set a custom workspace url while configuring citrix cloud? Can someone please explain?
r
You dont have to set up a custom url thats an option. The xxx.cloud.com url is used for admin access and can be used for subscriber access if you are using workspace/gateway service. Workspace =Storefront in cloud and obvioulsy gateway service = Gateway in cloud

The URL you configure is the one your users will use. The gateway service URLs are different but hidden from users. They are documented here Citrix Gateway Service – Points-of-Presence (PoPs) for your proxy/firewall team to allow.

so workspace url = storefront url in cloud, which we create a custom url optionally and give it to users with our own domain. We can only subscribe to netscaler gateway service, but we cant see those urls which we actually use. Based on the points of presence, users connections lands on closest pop. Where is gateway service used by end users? Is it something like this: users use custom url with our company domain, it goes to gateway service. Just like a url redirection. They land on gateway service url behind the scenes and login, launch and logout from the gateway portal backend but for them it is workspace url.

Think like gslb thats very large.

GSLB goes through netscalers... but we are only providing storefront url (in on prem terms) to users. how does this storefront url linked to gateway service, thats the only question i have..
r
Are you planning on keeping Storefront? Most customers use either StoreFront and on prem gateways or workspace and Gateway service. If you currently dont use gateway I assume that means you only have internal access or you use vpns ij which case you can just use Citrix Cloud with storefornt and keep doing it the same way though generally vpns have crappy performance iwht HDX. We also have recently introduced the ability to use gateway service wiht storefront. OS tt is actually an option now.
c
we are on cloud completely.. using gateway service, we are not going to maintain netscalers and storefront servers on-prem.

OK then the things you want to decide on is first are you ok using a cloud.com url just be aware there are some things that dont fully work wiht custom urls like service continuity https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/citrix-workspace/configure-access/configure-custom-domain.html You should use rendezvous it performs much better than routing through cloud connectors., Also you will want to use Direct Workload Connection for internal users https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/citrix-workspace/optimize-cvad/workspace-network-location.html Tis will be replaced soon by HDX Direct https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/citrix-virtual-apps-desktops/hdx-transport/hdx-direct.html Both of these technologies configuring routing to the VDA to stay internal if there is access internally to the VDA.
c
ok, Thank you for the details. I will go through them.

Youre Welcome

Users access the Workspace URL you choose in their browser or CWA. The gateway service uses GSLB behind the scenes for the session launch itself and will be something.nssvc.net based on their location.
