So after the issues with umbrella, looking to setup a DNS load balancer for Umbrella, and an ISP as a higher order bound service. Is there an easy way to set a message action on that ISP service to throw a message to syslog when it actually serves traffic to act as a notification of umbrella going down?
j
all in the netscaler and netscaler alone? tough since you can't do a responder or traffic policy on UDP as a bindpoint for a syslog action... if you have external monitoring, snmp trap on the service? but if you have external monitoring you'd probably monitoring umbrealla there...
j
Trying to keep it internal on the NetScaler if possible to keep alerting in ADM.
j
You had also issues with Umbrella proxy Sunday morning 7AM-10AM GMT and Tuesday around 11am GMT? We asked Cisco but so far we don't really have a clear answer. Thanks
j
There was an outage last week, for almost 12hrs
j
oh ok it has to be related to our Internet outage too, thanks!

@Jeff Riechers, if you want ADM/NSC alert and the probe goes down, why wont you just use the default SNMP -based alerts?
j
Yeah, we are planning that. But was trying to find something specific where if a service or service group is receiving requests it sends a message.
So on our Umbrella issue, this client uses infoblox and forwards requests to Umbrella, so when Umbrella stopped responding their infoblox queue filled and couldn't process any requests. So we are setting up a reverse DNS LB to prefer Umbrella, but if DNS monitors fail it will drop to the ISP. Will keep this queue issue from appearing again.
