Guys, could someone please refresh my memory on the workaround (if still possible) for having separate installs for Adobe Reader and Writer/Pro on the same image (vs the modern Universal installer), cheers

Itโ€™s a royal pain man. I avoid it if possible. It used to be doable and last time I tried it was difficult. I can send you some information on it and give it a shot. Maybe you will have better luck. Last time I did this it was all about FTA with program ID for users. Reader gets the FTA set for a group and then the same for pro. Now itโ€™s been some time and Iโ€™m not certain here if that will still work. Also for pro it was about the licensing. Named user licensing then a roaming key set for users and then prompts were a pain.
App masking maybe another option. Just would need to work out the details being they may share similar paths and keys.

Thanks, Ray. I recall having mad issues a while back and got it working with FSLogix appmasking. I have managed to install the 32bit reader and 64 bit Writer... no complaints so far but I've yet to seal and properly test ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Nice man. I would be interested in seeing those rules if you are able to share them. Itโ€™s such a pain in the rear

I cant find my notes but still have the client. I'll have a squint and share what I done if I can fish it out ๐Ÿ™‚
A single default install path that simplifies product deployment and management: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat DC 64-bit Acrobat supports both The easy-to-manage Named User Licensing & FRL activation methods. Available features are determined by the licensing/activation credential rather than installing two different products. Users with Acrobat rights get those features on sign-in. Other users get Reader. Two app installs are no longer required.

This was my adobe appmasking file until I switched to the unified app installer

unified installer works great for us.

Thanks, all. @Balint Oberrauch using the modern unified installer, does this mean ALL users need to sign in to Adobe to use it? There's literally a handful of folks have an Acrobat Pro license and Id rather avoid logins and auths for the masses that just need Reader, cheers
c
behaviour is here @John Gallacher Adobe pro users would have to sign in Adobe reader users dont have to sign in https://arnaudpain.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Adobe-Validation-1.mp4

Nice one, John. That looks great ๐Ÿ™‚

Those using the unified Adobe installer in prod enviroments how you found it with Pro features things like the Adobe PDF printer / Chrome Extension / Outlook PDF maker add-in ? do they get enabled / work only when users with a Adobe pro licence sign in ? i only used the universal installer in a lab and never got round to testing it fully so always used the other method of installing both Reader/pro and appmasking the pro features out
b
I mask the Adobe PDF Printer as it's visible for everyone but users without a license can't use it.
c
So finally got round to testing the unified Adobe installer. Got all the reg keys set and When I don't sign in I get reader by default and if I try to edit or create a pdf I get the you do not have access to that feature message. When I do sign into abobe (I am licensed for pro on the portal) I am able to edit and create pdfs fine. So far so good but when I try to print to Adobe pdf printer or use the outlook pdf maker add in I get this error which is strange as I am signed in so should be able to use the pro features ??(pdf printer /outlook pdf maker) any ideas?
@Balint Oberrauch you come across this ? or do you just app mask adobe pdf printer / Outlook pdf maker outlook plugin for everyone ?
d
is adobe running when you try to print to pdf?
c
Yeah I open it and sign in using my Adobe account which is licensed for pro and I can then edit pdfs. I go into outlook and try to print a email to Adobe pdf printer or use the Adobe pdf maker plugin and that's when I get the error
d
gotcha, a requirement before was needing to have adobe open in order to print. Ive been telling users to use microsoft print to pdf so not sure how to resolve this one
b
@c4rm0 last time I set this up it worked out the box. The printer has been appmasked only for non licensed users.
c
I am wondering if it's because of the Adobe creative cloud licenses they have ? Normally companies have the Enterprise license agreement with adobe but they got creative cloud licenses here. Using the unified installer I can log in and use my Adobe account and use the pro features to edit and create pdfs but I can't get the pdf printer and pdf maker to work
b
Are you using named licenses? If yes, you should have all possible features.
