Hey fellow travelers. Migrating from Windows 10 Enterprise to Windows 11 Pro and i've managed to work around the roadblocks MS present with downgrades but now i'm stuck with apps showing up on first login of a user that were completely removed from the gold image.. I'm sure i'm not alone in this, so looking for pointers.

Using persistent profiles that moved over from the Win10 environment to Win11?
p
No persistence.

@Aaron Parker thanks for the link, the scripts helped a lot, and also helped me comprehend the difference between current user and all user package commands. It looks like my issues now are mostly in the Windows 10 to Windows 11 upgrade process of a user profile. Clean profile everything works as i want it to do (thanks to your help), but in in my testing transitioning a profile from Windows 10 you can watch the start menu fill up with the crap while the login process completes.. If anyone has any pointers on how to stop this i'm all ears. Test system is the same non-persistent VM. So it's not a group policy or local policy. It seems something in the upgrade of the Windows 10 user profile is triggering it.

Take a look at this key -
HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ContentDeliveryManager
,
SilentInstalledAppsEnabled
p
I have that key set. I actually have a few more than that set. MS are pinning icons for apps that do not currently exist on the system (thanks to your scripts, Citrix Optimizer, and a homebrew powershell script) and i can't figure out a way to remove them, or to just turn off pinned apps completely. Not sure if it matters, but my testing so far has been fine creating a new user account. But existing accounts that are transitioning are having this issue. Specifically, userlayer systems. Trying to move existing userlayer based users without breaking them, but also without introducing additional bumf.

try this one -
reg add "HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CloudContent" /v "DisableWindowsConsumerFeatures" /d 1 /t "REG_DWORD" /f
I’ll have to add that to my image-customise solution
p
Hmm. thats a new one for me.
a
Windows 11 Enterprise right? Not Pro
p
No, its' Pro. We are moving from Win10 enterprise, which has been a fun ride in itself since we use applayer and run userlayers.
a
ah, pretty sure you won’t have that issue in Enterprise
