07/10/2024, 10:30 PMNot shocking. I keep finding myself in weird gotchas with applayering. Odd tho - since other than OS updates the VM has nothing on it. This is the first time i caught the error - first 3 times it silently crashed on me - well.. i was otherwise engaged. 🏴

07/11/2024, 1:54 AMTried a bunch of tests, all fail. Even reverted back to May 2024 patch level, fails same way - at the step where it installs the VDA.
For giggles reset and tried VDA 2308. Installed no issues.

07/11/2024, 3:53 PMClosing the loop on this thread. Had to revert all the way back to the original OS layer we built in 2018, in order to get VDA 2402 to install. Spun up a new version based on our 2018 version, patched to current, then made a new platform layer. At that point was able to install successfully. I guess something along the road from 2018 to now was waiting to break and chose this VDA to do so...

07/11/2024, 11:15 PMDid you try using the VDA cleanup tool before installing 2402? Unfortunately I've had this same issue in App Layering with other apps, where -something- breaks way back but doesn't become apparent until you are further down the road. One of the reasons we prefer automated builds with fresh installs (where possible)

07/12/2024, 12:11 AMThat’s the odd thing. Nothing to clean up since the platform layers always start from clean builds. Our setup is such that version 0 of our app or platform layers are always clean so we can build from that version and know there is nothing in it. We spin up a new platform layer / app layer, reboot it a couple times then reseal. Then from the next version of that we will actually do an install.
