Hello, I don't fin the information but what does it meen : Disable automatic configuration ? On which parameters does this apply ? Thanks.
j
it means Windows 10 and up won't configure itself - essentially if it is allowed to configure automatically, it will IGNORE any exclusions and inclusions you set
So if you are on Windows 10 and higher and have configured file or folder exclusions and inclusions, the UPM settings will ignore them unless "Disable automatic configuration" is checked
l
Thanks. What do you mean with "it means Windows 10 and up won't configure itself" ? What should not be configured itself ?
j
If you select "disable automatic configuration", then it won't configure the UPM exclusions and inclusions itself
If you do select "disable automatic configuration", it ignores any exclusions and inclusions you've set and just uses the ones it "thinks" you should have
I found out about this the hard way
l
So it linked with inclusion and exclusions from FileBased menu ?
j
Yes, file and folder exclusions and inclusions (and probably Registry too)
l
Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚
j
It also makes other decisions for you - which you really want to be in control of - like active write back etc. whilst itโ€™s a nice idea, I never ever use it and always specifically disable it personally
r
Same here.
l
It's only application on Desktop OS ? Because @James Rankin says "On Windows 10 and Higher", so not on Server OS ? Thanks for your answers. So the best practice, If I undestand, is to check the checkbox for Disable automatic configuration.
j
I think it applies on equivalent Server OSes too
l
What I don't understand is that we never check this checkbox and all the inclusions and exclusions configured in UPM > File System are fully functionnal.
j
I never used to pay any attention to it until I was trying to capture a specific app and it completely ignored my settings. Maybe the ones you have set are also the ones it sets?
l
Yes, we used default inclusions / exclusions but on some config set we use personnalized exclusions on Server OS and it's working. Same with Directory Syncronization.
I never paied attention to this parameter until yesterday because it was the first time that I saw the checkbox checked by one of our customer.
j
I had no idea that is bypassed your inclusions/exclusions either - that seems odd. It was there to also help out with things like start menu roaming where you had differences for each OS - auto config was to make those decisions for you
j
I was trying to include a folder from APPDATA\LOCAL\Packages and it simply wouldn't work. Turned off auto-config - bingo, started working

Thanks for all your replies ๐Ÿ™‚ I have better understanding of these option now.
