Hello, we have white icons on applications shortcuts on Desktop and in startmenu when deployed with Wem Service and we don’t know why. Applications are working but the real icons are missing. Tested with Wem agent 2403 and 2406. But when we open the wem menu of applications in desktop, we can see the icons. Could this be an issue when using Initial UI cleanup ? We tried without this option and its the same. Someone else had this problem ? Thank you.

Are you using Onedrive KFM?
l
No
j
pretty sure that's an icon cache issue. These are stored in the users app data folder in their profile - there is path (which i can't recall specifically" which hosts those icon files
l
Thanks for your answers. We have this problem on new productions also with new profiles. We will show that.
j
can you post a screenshot of what you are seeing, I might be misunderstanding the scenario a little?

j
ah ok i have it back to front - those caches i mentioned serve the icons in the tray you are looking at
if you right click on the desktop icon, go and have a look at the shortcut target - is it accurate?
l
I ask one of my colleague to take a screen and will post it here
We do not have this problem on migrated Config Set from OnPrem WEM to WEM service with Backup and Restore. Only on new deployments on WEM Service with a new config set that I've created on WEM Service. What I see, is that on the legacy WEM Service console, it says "Unknown" on the icon.
Shortcuts are launching the applications but on desktop, icon shows blank

Couple of questions: 1. Do you have
Initial desktop UI cleanup enabled
at all? If so, it will delete any icons that were put there (start menu too) by something else - can cause orphan issues 2. Do you have
Enable automatic restore
enabled on the applications themselves? 3. if you right click on the desktop icon, go and have a look at the shortcut target -
is it accurate.
If you select
"Open file location"
does it find the icon? 4. Is there anything else playing with icon assignment in the environment? 5. Is the desktop redirected?
OK that's five, not a couple πŸ™‚
l
1. Yes 2. Yes 3. We will look 4. No 5. Yes
πŸ™‚
3.
We will try again with disabling "Initial desktop UI cleanup" but last one it was not working...
Same issue..

Seems like you're redirecting Appdata to a network share?
l
Yes
We redirect, Desktop, Pictures, Documents, Downloads, AppData on a share, out of CPM.
With the same config in WEM OnPrem we never had these problems.
j
that path for the shortcut - is that pointing into the shortcut cache in the app data (appdata redirection is the devil, but it won't be your issue here - that should be killed off though)

1. Open Group Policy Editor 2. Navigate to, Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > File Explorer 3. Enable Allow the use of remote paths in file shortcut icons
try this setting
And please get rid of your appdata redirection as James mentioned. Really annoying issues can happen
l
In cache directory we see the icons :
Thanks, we will try πŸ˜‰
It's better with the GPO but very slow resolution for icons.
l
yess, we tried with this tool too. Icon is importing in WEM Web console but after that, on desktop, icon is blanck. I have to look next week because I think I maybe have a misconfiguration in Profile Management config in Wem config set because we haven't this problem on imported config set, only on new config set created in Citrix Cloud.
Hello, we found the issue with your help. Problem is because with redirect AppData. Without these redirection, no problem. With these redirection, we had to activate gpo policy mentionned by Balint. Great thanks for your help at all. πŸ‘

@lstod good that it worked out. Another reason why you shouldn't redirect appdata:
