Amazing item I ran in to tonight. Firmware update on Azure NetScalers and the /ver directory was almost full. largest file /var/log/waagent/waagent.log 3.5 GB

Upgrading the default disk size NetScalers in Azure is close to impossible nowadays, impossible using Console, but can be done manually. I'm considering to extend the disk in all of the pairs we have and checking if I could mount the new partition just for /var/nsinstall
did it according to the instructions where the instructions guide to extend the /var/crash, but that's not very helpful from automation perspective

Seen the new automatic disk size increase in newest 14.1? Just shut it down, extend the disk and start up again, no need to manually gpart and such anymore

Is it in release notes?
Haven't tested with a VPX in azure, but i've tested it on other hypervisors and it works

Our envs still on 13.1... need to check if they changed it there as well. Azure disks are a bit different though.
seems it's supported only on 14.1, good pick @Mads Petersen. I'm gathering a motivational list for the upgrade... the WAF for GW/AAA was also brought to 13.1 so that one got scratched out.
m
I don't see a compelling reason to stay on 13.1, so far 14.1 has been good for me and all the customers i've updated.
k
yeah... seems that the HA failover crash issue is present on both of the builds as well as the issue found in the EPA domain detection, we did have some backlog to get all envs to 13.1 first to guarantee support throughout the summer and also running the same build in all of our customers gives a better understading of what might cause issues, if we have different versions, that's always the first suspicion.
but looks like 14.1 is something to start implementing in autumn
patching to latest 14.1 in SDX wasn't a walk in the park though (https://community.citrix.com/forums/topic/252980-netscaler-sdx-8920-upgrade-failing/#comment-84761) 😄

Yeah known issue, we had to fix it also, but only on the 8900 models, everyone else was fine.

That was only the start to the mess that was an upgrade from 13.0 to 13.1. VPX started as 12.0 so lots of lingering extras. Completed the upgrade, forced failover, and got stuck at the SAML auth page blank. Had to rollback. Time to investigate the logs today.
f
just for info, the same problem on the 8920 also affected the 13.1 firmware

@Kari Ruissalo (WyW) according to a colleague, the auto expand disk also works in newest 13.1 even though it's not in the docs.

@Mads Petersen does the disk resize work also with Azure instances, any experience? Those are the ones I'm struggling most with
m
haven't tried, just deploy one and test? 🙂
