Started getting an error message after trying to capture a new OS Layer version: "Please address this issue and retry: The device is not ready." This is using Azure connectors and OS layer is Windows Server 2022. I tried going back to an older layer version (April 9th) as the base OS, but it is doing the same thing. Only thing I am updating in the layer is Microsoft Edge/WebView2 to the latest release. Running the latest ELM 2304. I have a Windows 11 Enterprise Multi-Session OS Layer that I ran the same updates on, and it had no trouble capturing. And I had no issues updating prior to the current attempt. Nothing has changed between now (today) and the last time I tried to update this OS layer (April 15th) so I'm not sure exactly the cause of this error message or even what it means. And since we are using Azure, I can't exactly monitor the Compositing Engine VM as it captures the OS Layer image. I've tried capturing several times, even defragging the layer to see if it was a fragmented MFT or VHD issue, but it didn't help. Any thoughts or ideas I could try next?
Update, now my Win11 app layer packaging VMs are having the same issue. Nothing changed on the ELM side recently, so maybe something changed in Azure? Not sure what could cause the Compositing Engine VM to break in this way? I wish the error messages were more descriptive, what does "The device is not ready" even mean...
Ok, figured it out. Turns out the ELM ran out of free space, so it had nowhere to capture the layer updates to. But if the error would have pointed that out instead of being so obtuse, I may have looked at it sooner instead of wasting my time thinking it was related to the layers themselves or assuming it was an Azure issue.
