Anyone ever migrate hypervisors in App Layering? We're testing going from VMware to Nutanix, and one area I'm trying to figure out now is how to handle the new hypervisor tools. The docs make it sound like you need to build a new [Nutanix] Platform layer for packaging VMs, and then a another new [Nutanix] Platform layer for the compiled image (being sent to PVS). Is this just if you want to manage different hypervisors with the same OS layer? If you switch entirely, couldn't you simply add an OS layer version, rip out the VMware tools and install Nutanix VirtIO, then build a new Platform layer based off that OS layer?

At the platform layer. You’ll have to install VirtIO tools on source platform layer first before deploying to Nutanix. If you want to switch entirely I don’t see why you couldn’t do same process at OS layer.

We went from Xen to VMWare recently. We uninstalled Xentools from the OS layer. We had to install the VMware tools in OS layer (no mouse/keyboard otherwise) because we wanted to start packaging in VMWare. We had 2 platform layers. One with our standard stuff, then one with standard stuff + XenServer tools.

if you are going to package in nutanix you will want to add them to the os layer but if its just an additional hypervisor and you are only publishing to it just add the tools in the platform layer
