I've only got direct experience with one customer on AWS, their image is around 60ish GB I think and takes around 40 mins. How big is your customer's image?
p
It's about 150 GB so seems to align with what you're seeing... But I wonder if you can speed things up by using EBS Volume initialization or Fast snapshot restore
j
@Daniel Marsh wonder if that's the same customer I am thinking of 🙂 I have done a few in AWS, don't recall it being fast, but also don't think it was taking an hour. Is it an older deployment? I remember this https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/citrix-virtual-apps-desktops/install-configure/connections/connection-aws.html#direct-disk-upload-and-download making a decent change, but not sure how much it impacted speed
d
@James Kindon No this is a different one - we don't manage those guys any more unfortunately, they offshored to a cheaper company 😕

Not sure if they already had Citrix Cloud before but the hosting connection and machine catalogs have been deployed maybe a year ago. So in order to enable "Direct disk upload and download" we just need to set the correct permissions and also recreate the machine catalog right?
How can I verify if direct disk up/download is beeing used or if it's still volume worker?
j
Yeah this came out way before that, I think if the permissions are there you should be sorted - volume workers got defunct support wise - but i have no idea if they still technically work TBH
p
Ok, the customer was already aware that volume worker is deprecated and he has configured the required permissions.

Disk encryption (often mandatory) slower the update (1h30 for a 80Gb image on our side)
p
Oh good to know. I'll check that as well, thanks!
