HA will totally ruin an SD card with all the writes, FYI. google it and you can tune it down some, but in the end, it's not long for this world

ask me how i know... lol

HA is awesome! I'm running HA on a decent SD, been running for some time with no issues (but the issues may be coming)

I’ve still got 2 Raspberry Pi 3’s I got from the CTP program. Still trying to figure out how to get one to manage a light for when I’m in a call
n
Interesting, I’ll give that a look. I’m only looking at HA because of its ability to report on my new solar panels. Wanted something that I could use to possibly automate a few things that perhaps Enphase’s app can’t do. It’s the only smart device in (on?) my house that isn’t on my SmartThings network.
r
HA is annoying to me, as it feels like "work".... These days at home, i don't want to "work" .... ST is just easy. It's not the best by any stretch, but it's easy.

Fucking with YAML files is not something I want to do on my off-time. hahaha
c
As HA goes on, the need to modify YAML becomes less and less, if at all now.
k
I just build an OnAir Zoom box @Aaron Parker :)
With a guest appearance of @Jarian Gibson
^ next step is to use HA Automations to call that URL and move through a few steps when enabling my webcam (turning off Spotify/turning on the right lights etc)
c
thats cool @Kees Baggerman I need one of those!
n
YAML files? Citrix has already ruined those for me thanks to the automation cmdlets.
And yeah, SmartThings has been outstanding for me. The move to Edge drivers was horseshit, but at least the important apps I use made drivers for it, so I don't lose too much functionality.
I've spent an hour looking through how to actually make these changes, but apparently the rpi install for HA makes it impossible. I now hate everything about this for wasting so much of my time...
a
@Kees Baggerman I have a Blynclight, but the CameraUsage app might be just what I need. I have done something similar via the Streamdeck, but that’s manual. Wondering though if I can automate that with Shortcuts/Automator 🤔
r
@Nick Panaccio Yup... I'm sorry.. That's how i felt with HA too.
n
Yeah, this is shit compared to ST. Ah well, I'll see how this solar reporting actually does, and if it does burn out the SDcard, I'll turn if back off and throw it into the closet again.
r
That's what i ended up doing. 😄
n
I've been trying to find something to use this stupid thin client for, and I thought I had a good idea here. 😆
r
how about RPi with AdGuard Home ?
k
That's how I'm utilizing my NUC: HA/AdGuard/Unify Controller
n
I honestly don't think I care about that enough to set it up
r
Home AdBlocking is a must have, imo
n
My router can natively use AdGuard for DNS, apparently.
r
OPNSense?
n
Actually, not necessarily natively, but it's an option in Merlin's firmware.
Just points all DNS queries to their servers. Looks like somebody wrote a guide for actually installing AdGuard Home on the router itself if you wanted to go that route.
c
Pi-hole?

AdGuard > Pi-hole
