antivirus? Was it working before? Any change since it doesn't?

Considering this is a 10 year old app, I'm assuming you've already tried constraining what it's trying to preallocate for contiguous memory from the app side? ie. is there a JAVA_OPTS="-Xms###m *-Xmx*###m" min/max setting in an app config file or try -Xmx -Xms -Xss params for the published JVMs?

We have some info on free JVM monitoring options - Eclipse etc https://www.eginnovations.com/blog/free-java-monitoring-tools-pros-cons/
https://www.eginnovations.com/blog/how-to-enhance-performance-java-applications/ Section 3 explains the Xms stuff @Jon Bucud suggests a little more

Asked one of the APM team who make our Java/.NET monitoring tools and she said System.OutOfMemoryException hints at C# application (not Java). The namespace System is all Microsoft. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/api/system.outofmemoryexception?view=net-7.0 could it be a C# app is depriving the Java app or interfering with it?

Thank you all for the suggestion! We will look further in it but probably will try to explain to the users that they don't need to keep this application 4 times in the same session 🙂
