IF I recall this correctly, which I think I do, that value is only available on vSphere based ProvSchemes, when I was working through this, all other ProvSchemes left that value as $null
Nutanix/Azure/AWS all use full clone anyhow, not quite sure on SCVMM based deployments
d
This is from Studio, where the VDAs are provisioned via MCS.
j
Is that a VMware catalog?
d
Yep.
j
Dammit I was hoping they’d fixed other platforms - everyone else seems to pull $null
d
Think of all the man power Citrix needs to assign, for this info to be available, for all platforms 🙂

I didn't realize Nutanix only used full clones - good to know. Have a lot of old images to clean up. Funny that it's listed on the vmware catalog, but I can't find it on the catalogs properties in powershell. I think we have a vmware catalog in dev I can check.
j
@langsbr check the provscheme rather than the catalog
l
I see a setting in the provscheme called UseFullDiskCloneProvisioning. I suspect that might be the VM copy mode, but it says False. That being said, if Nutanix only does full copies, that means that I can delete any persistent VM gold images as all VMs spawned from it are standalone and have no dependency on it, right?
j
Well at least it says false now, it used to be blank, they must have fixed it after I moaned 🙂
We clone from the snapshot of the VM. @Jarian Gibson nothing else to be cognizant of here?
j
Yep full clone and throw away disk on shutdown and boot for MCS non persistent
l
What about persistent? That's what I was concerned about here
j
It’s the same except not marked for deletion
AHV doesn’t do anything other than full clones
Cloned from the VM snapshot
