Doesn't appear to be a registry key, which makes me think it's in a flat file somewhere. Funny, because for the last few days I have been unpinning and re-pinning my Edge shortcut wondering WTF that icon was.
a
lol our service desk has been getting slammed w/ it since people end up w/ 20 shortcuts if they let it go. way to go microsoft
and yup i tried the registry before/after compare and definitely not that
how are you going to introduce a big new feature and NOT include an updated admx to administer it
n
I mean... Microsoft
😂 2
Let me see if ProcMon helps
a
so far i threw together a script that kills any desktop shortcut w/ that naming convention but its just a band aid
oh ya good call
j
ProcMon and filter on Registry SetValue and File Write Operation
n
exactly what I did and am reading through now
Well, I know it's not a reg value because I exported my HKCU hive before making the change and used kdiff to compare, nothing related to Edge.
a
yup same here. nothing useful at least
n
I bet it's in one of those dumb .ldb files in your profile.
So many of them are being written to, but it's impossible to tell.
a
thats what i was thinking too unfortunately
j
Sounds painful - am now glad to be semi-retired
n
Yeah, I'm just not seeing anything. May just have to wait for MS to update their ADMX template with a setting.
a
sadly you might be right! i read something that the duplicates thing was a bug so maybe an edge update will at least stop the bleeding soon
n
Whatever it is, it doesn't appear to be included in the latest ADMX files.
a
nope not that i've found either. thanks for looking at it either way!
a
Add .link to the list of excluded files in OneDrive
s
any news for this Edge shortcut issue?
a
nothing that we've seen yet......i need to look at that .link exclude idea from Aaron maybe...we got a call from a user who's desktop now looks like this because of it

n
That's... beautiful
a
it almost looks like an on purpose wallpaper at this point
a
In addition to excluding .link files from syncing, ensure Edge is current, and set the donotcreatedesktopshortcut policy setting
a
thanks @Aaron Parker! is that an Edge policy?
a
Yes. Under Edge Update somewhere
