I thought you could take a snap, make it into a managed image and create a VM from that
m
You may be onto something. I'll have to do some research. I know you can easliy create just a usable disk from a snap but if i do that and try to swap disk on the current master, the machine account wil likely by messed up?
b
Create a new machine, sysprep and re-join it, then you could have a parallel image to test with
m
If i take the old snap and convert it to a new disk, create a new VM and attach it, it'll boot up and have the old name and be out of synch with AD. won't this hose the machine account and have be reset? that's what i'm trying to avoid is messing up the machine account we're currently using for the master.
b
Could put it on an isolated network where it can't talk to anything, you can remote to it, sysprep it, then put it back on the proper network
m
I finally got it but it's a PITA šŸ™‚ make disk from old snap swap OS disk on the mater to the new it'll boot but RDP is broke get serial console on AZ and get to a cmd prompt
• reg add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp" /v SecurityLayer /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
• reg add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp" /v UserAuthentication /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f • reg add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp" /v fAllowSecProtocolNegotiation /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
then you can rdp with local admin creds then run - Test-ComputerSecureChannel -Repair -Credential domain\username
