You need to enable Files On Demand so that only the stubs are stored on the profile, not the actual OneDrive files. James Rankin has a good blog on this: https://james-rankin.com/articles/managing-onedrive-on-citrix-virtual-apps-and-desktops/
r
At times I noticed Citrix Does not put in the Profile parts in the Best Pratices around MS componets. In this case I would follow what they say in the FSLogix Docs, which is to exclude it and not roam it, or enable Files on Demand with Storage Sense.
n
I wouldn't exclude the folder simply because OneDrive will consume so much CPU every logon.
The initial sync is already bad enough, but once that's done, everything should be nice and smooth.
r
Okay good to know on that.
n
I can tell you that my own OD profile, which was something like 18GB in size, took an hour to query and create the stub files at my last place (FSLogix shop).
n
so don't exclude anything one drive related?
n
Nope
n
ouch nick
so leave the one cache alone
what about ray's point about enabling one drive on demand and storage sense
n
FOD for sure, Storage Sense optional (but I would enable it)
r
Or just stop using OneDrive, and it's garbage, and switch to something like Cloud Drive Mapper

sorry for so many questions...so if i enable storage sense and on demand can i then exclude one drive from the profile or no. i think no but just want to confirm
r
OneDrive has so many problems/limitations, is it even worth it anymore?

You don't exclude OneDrive at all, no matter what, IMO.

OD is a PITA... we couldn't get around using it at my last place, though.
couldn't = were not allowed to
r
heh, yeah, that happens
but, am i wrong? lol
n
Not really 😄
r
It's amazing how these 3rd party tools make products so better. Which makes me wonder why the creator of the products just don't do it this way from the get go.
r
OneDrive and FOD is a great/neat concept. It just doesn't fucking work. (at scale)
r
That is the hardest challenge is setting this up and showing the client, if you by xy and z then it will be even better. I know you just spent 400K on citrix 🙂

these one drive folders are one drive cache, correct?
n
Should be. We don't use OD here, so I can't double check

https://superuser.com/questions/1006907/what-is-the-location-of-the-temp-file-for-onedrive-for-business-sync - cause this article says one drive is in %localappdata%\microsoft\onedrive so thats why i am confused as to what the files in Username\UPM_Profile are
r
Hmm I see what you are saying
n
yup..yup..so thats not cache..i don't know how that got there
n
Yeah, that's not actual OneDrive client cache
The OD cache folder will have the tenant name in the folder path, IIRC.
C:\Users\%username%\OneDrive - Tenant Name\
n
ok, so the article is wrong. thanks for clearing it up.
appdata\local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Code Cache or what if i exclude appdata\local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\...could that cause potential issues?
