Hmm...if I remember correctly, the RW disk should be merged during next logon, have you tested that?

Server 2 disconnected, Server 1 (RW) logoff:

Attempting merge of diff disk: \\Share\FSLOGX$\user\RW.vhdx
Open vDisk failed, file is opened in another session: \\Share\FSLOGX$\user\RW.vhdx

RW file remains on fileserver. RO session still disconnected. Starting a new session:

Attempting merge of diff disk: \\Share\FSLOGX$\user\RW.vhdx
Open vDisk failed, file is opened in another session: \\Share\FSLOGX$\user\RW.vhdx
RW diff disk is open in another session
RW exists.  Taking RO role.

(Which makes sense to me, because you would steal the base of RO.vhdx)

The RW will not merge if there is an active RO

Stuff like this is why I would use UPM fallback 🙂
