Yeah, it is the main complaint of our users as previously they could at least take screenshot of screen sharing during a Skype meeting

Trend Micro Office Scan has always treated us correctly with RDSH. However, im looking to replace it with Windows since we already pay for it and end up disabling most of Trends features in RDSH

Toying with the idea of seeing what Citrix UPM / WEM and or FSLogix can do to replace Ivanti UWM (mainly use EM atm..).   How do they all stack up these days?   I remember Citrix UPM being a bit poor some years ago.

Also, what are you guys with hybrid desktops using?  Looking for a solution that I can extend into Azure for any compute resources hosted there.

You just create your 2 new Application groups and set the priorities, etc.
Filter the applications by the delivery group they are assigned to.
Select all of the applications and Drag and drop them over on each of the new Application Groups.

Done. You could then remove from the direct assignment of the original delivery group as well, but won't make a difference.

All the applications atm are published to the Prod DG the new DG i created called Pre prod has no applications published to it. I basically want the same prod applications published to the new DG which only contains a single machine which will be used for Vdisk change testing.  Just tested this in my lab. I have created two new application groups Prod and UAT and added the production applications published to the prod DG to both new application groups. Do i add both DG's to the app groups and change the priority so for the prod app group prod dg will be priority 0 and pre prod app group priority 1? and vice versa for pre prod app group but other way round ?  or only the prod DG to the prod app group and Pre prod DG to Pre prod app group ? what will happen if users have access to both app groups ? wouldnt i have to individually change the priority of the app groups in each app ?

maybe a single app group would be better ? both prod and pre prod DG's added but with pre prod set with priority 0

Sounds like what you are trying to do may be something like what we do for a test system.

1 Delivery Group
2 App Groups with the same Apps
Prod App group - All users in the delivery group allowed. Machines limited to tag. Priority 1
UAT App group - Limited to test users. Machines limited to tag. Priority 0.

yea, should work as advertised, but I know tags are "subject' to a lot of other stuff (zone preferences as a big one and 'readiness' being another). So with the tag restrictions you have and the added user volume, I am wondering if it is seeing not enough with tag "x" and then falling back to any other desktop then when it overflows?

without aggregation, two dekstops of the same name would show up as something like this...

really sounds like a bug of some sort.  WIthout access to the desktop, they def should not be able to launch, and if they did have access to both, they would show up as 2 diff icons

although i'm testing wtih storefront on prem, cloud workspace may behave differently with a native aggregation type setting

We don't want to do that because we are siloing users to one datacenter or the other based on need and its just less complicated all around to have the same desktop name and separate users by AD groups.

Descriptions have clues to where they ultimately land, but user has to dig for that.

From the above comments it does not sound like we are doing something really dumb. Second DG would bypass rando weirdness with the black box that is cloud.

Definitely more a tag issue than anything else, your design / use logic is exactly what we would do, smells like at some point it’s flaking on the “tag” restriction, tis a strange one - I’ve used tag restrictions forever and not seen them fail, odd 

I'm hoping someone out there has some experience with Universal Print Server as I'm hitting a wall with a customer where it's just not working. Not sure if it's something to do with the PrintNightmare issues last year. Installed the UPS on the Print server (a test server with a single shared printer). Enabled the Citrix policies for UPS. Added the shared printer as a session printer but when we login to the VDA (2203) it attempts to map the printer but fails with this error. It looks like it's ignoring the UPD on the VDA and wants to download the native driver from the print server. I've even setting a mapping policy that says to use the UPD instead of that specific driver.

I‘m not able to test this, but chrome Citrix plugin is also html5 access, I think it is also affected as only IE11 html5 is working without enabling cvpnv2. As it’s related to some new JavaScript code, the new one „should“ be more secure than the old one…

I know it's kind of confusion because cvpn is a completely other way of publishing resources through NetScaler - but this cvpn "mode" is truly only for HTML5 access, nothing else.

If cloud hosted VDA means cloud hosted only by Citrix, then true.  However, thats not true if you are open to other companies hosting your VDAs.  I can have a vpn or express route to Azure and have my VDAs cloud hosted by Azure and DCs, netscaler, ect on prem or in citrix cloud, or any cloud or colo for that matter

Yes, you can treat azure, aws, ect as an extension of your own datacenter. you can do it with or without citrix cloud.

My understanding that Citrix does not support cloud hosted VDA's with the onprem subscription. But if you have a way around it thats awesome :slightly_smiling_face:

There is no difference in having a citrix VDA sitting on a 1, physical server on prem, 2 inside of Vmware ESX on prem, 3 an machine that you created or migrated to Azure, AWS, ect. I really hope your right, however that is not my understanding. I've asked that question a couple different places, including my Citrix SE and their conclusion is that VDAs, no matter how they are provisioned, are not supported in Azure/AWS/GCP past 1912.  I would really like to be proven wrong here as this directly affects a client of mine.

Review at the above article. My read has always been that you just need to make sure they have hybrid rights on there on premise subscription if we are talking about a license issues.

In most cloud trade up you get Hybrid rights. For OnPrem you have to extend your perpetual licenses with hybrid rights which is way more expensive than doing Cloud TradeUp. For sure as Citrix wants their customers to use Citrix cloud with public workload together…

that's how i understand it.  Although i thought for some reason that obtaining hybrid rights without a cloud sub would be a little cheaper than cloud...thats kinda redic.  Citrix needs to remove their stance in general on Cloud VDAs needing anything other than a normal license.

We are switching to cloud specifically because of the cloud VDA support. I am totally with you on the cash grab. I dont think that there are any ways around it if you want to contniue using Citrix's hosting integration for provisioning

yeah, i get it if you are using hosting connections/provisioning.  If you have normal licensing, just remove cloud entries from hosting connection options.

The logic for Cloud only for public Cloud workloads is a fair one - their focus on development would have to be on two core streams, cloud is a LOT more agile than on prem CVAD so that has been the focus. They did backtrack with 2203 hybrid use rights, the idea is that is for enterprise or very large sectors that cannot move to Citrix Cloud - so its not a cheap option, and its not really designed for smaller environments. So in summary
• Citrix Cloud is required for public cloud workloads regardless of provisioning type AFTER 1912 LTSR
• Citrix 2203 on prem allows for integration with Azure again IF you have hybrid rights
• Citrix Cloud is more feature advanced than on-prem these days, so if you can go, go :)

lastly, regardless of 2203 Hybrid rights, the feature integration is always lagging, and likely some things wont ever land as it relates to public cloud integration

if your  not doing any cloud integration, it shouldn't matter and doens't req more dev cycles.

the product doesn't differentiate between customers and their workload requirements - they have to cater for every scenario from a dev perspective - so it takes a LOT more cycles to manage two platforms - right or wrong on that decision, that is the logic

but they have to support their on prem product anyway...

if you have an on prem license, perpepuaal or termed, Cloud hosting connnections are removed.  have a cloud license....cloud hosting connections are unlocked.  Boom.  Next :slightly_smiling_face:

They support their product on VMware ESX on prem, Xen on prem, I assume HyperV on prem and a myriad of physical machines. Whats the reason to charge more If I were to build a virtual machine VDA in azure and vpn to it from my on prem Citrix  DC.  I dont see the extra cost for dev  then sticking that same VDA on any of the above examples at a colo that I manage of my choice.  I have no idea but i assume VMs in azure are running on hyper v so there shouldn’t be more dev cycles

there is a lot more to it than where your workload runs - I agree with you it shouldn't matter if you weren't using provisioning - but I see the efforts that go into cloud provisioning and it is massive /shrugs

same for my client, and i built them some aws automation to powerup/down things during off hours to save on some costs.

That is crazy. That sounds like all the bullshit devs  use to code in apps to prevent you from running the app on terminal server\citrix many years ago. Now Citrix is doing it on their own product.

Not to be argumentative because i just want to understand. Please give me example if you have one. Im talking no provisioning and just a basic register of a VDA that is sitting on azure back to your on prem Ctrix DC. Is the software that Azure injects into the VDA (like VMware tools) that drastic that it warrants additional dev time to justify the cost?

I would think a non-provisioned VDA would register, you would just get the ole "sorry not supported" if you call in with an issue. I believe the way they are managing it right now is by not exposing the host connections for cloud providers in the on-prem version, but if you tell it "this is a physical machine with no hosting" how could it know otherwise? Perhaps they bake something into the VDA that reports that it's in a cloud?

I thought they were going to start doing checks for the installer too.

Isn't it the "is this VDA hosted in cloud" option during the VDA install that screws it? Basically, they ask you to dob yourself in?

99% sure it will check regardless - it was erroring out before that install option existed I believe

I do like how Citrix never calls out these changes in the notes. You have to compare the old and new switches in the doc.

Well the UPM plugin didn't cause a failure on my 2203 installs despite being mis-spelled, whereas now it fails with "invalid command-line switches" if you use any of the errant bits

Yes, but rather than me having to hand-check them every release, it would be nice for those of use who have automated systems for installing the VDA to maybe just get a little document saying "hey, we deprecated these switches in 2209". Maybe add it to the release notes?

Speaking of command line parameters - anyone using "/controllers "(controller group 1) (controller group2)" find that it doesnt work since 1912?  Worked in 7.15, but the installer balks at the parentheses now.  Anyone find a fix?

I've never used parentheses for it, personally. One of our guys is using that switch for 2203 CU1, but as '/controllers "<http://xdc.site.com|xdc.site.com>" "<http://xdc2.site.com|xdc2.site.com>"', etc.

Now you know the grief I go through documenting the changes in policy settings between versions because Citrix never documents those changes 

I try not to complain, but this one is a pain. Having to compare CLI parameters each release without some type of call out is pain full. I feel for Mr. Webster with the GPO doc he keeps up to date.

I'd settle for GUI spiting out a log with the switches used...  The VDA command line helper tool is woefully out of date.

So, I reported the page and mentioned exactly what was discussed here - changes to the switches were not mentioned in the 'What's New' page. The response I got from Citrix: "We've updated the <https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/citrix-virtual-apps-desktops/install-configure/install-command.html|Install using the command line> page to include the most up-to-date list of CLI switches."

It's like they didn't even read the submission. At all.

We’re seeing this with 2203 CU1, Server 2019, and latest version of Teams. Have to constantly restart the Teams client to fix it.

Update to Workspaceapp 2210. --&gt; fixed:
	•	In the optimized Microsoft Teams video meeting, call joined with video ON, you might observe a call drop. This issue occurs sporadically and when the HdxRtcEngine.exe process fails on the client side. [CVADHELP-21095]
	

Thanks guys! We are on LTSR CWA 1912 CU6 or higher. It was stable and then now it's bad, video or only audio call.

It is most likely related to Chrome updated version, I'm testing CTX473065.

Citrix DaaS - VMWare On GCP

Hi all
I try to use MCS on a VMWare hosted on GCP. If I use a custom role with MCS permission the image preparation failed just after the preparation machine start.
If I use the cloudowner account everything works great.
Do you know if we can use custom permission role account on VMWare hosted on GCP ?
On Citrix docs, the screenshot show also the cloudowner account.

Yes, have seen it. There a number of causes for it though. Depends on your configuration which one might be the issue. A quick Internet Search should bring up a number of possibilities. Hopefully one of them will jump out as something to configure differently in your environment.

I read somewhere that Carbon Black is not supported on Citrix Session hosts - it is super intrusive even with the exclusions in place

If you’re using Login Enterprise you might see a huge dump of files at some point and we’ve seen AV/Security agents having an issue with that (racing conditions in scanning the files)

We analyzed the PVS image with SEP and CB and also without with SEP and CB. Set higher CPU load (privilege mode) in WPA seen that many DPC calls and interrupts are made.
Does anyone have an idea of what it can be? a blog or article.

"The audio is offloaded but it does not go through the ICA virtual channel. The audio is encoded/decoded directly on the thin client and is sent/received directly between end points (peer to peer, Ex. thin client to thin client, thin client to physical desk phone….Etc). The agent controls the call through the Avaya App on the Citrix Virtual Desktop and the Avaya plugin/local app on the thin client mirrors the call control happening on the virtual desktop and sends the audio/media directly from the thin client hardware. I can demo this to anyone interested if it helps understand how this works."

The project got put on hold, and I never got a real world working setup. Only information. I wish I had more to share.

Wish I'd had equinox to play with, but have done an 800 seat call-center on Windows clients using Avaya softphone in VDI with UDP audio with good results. Only issues tended to be if either we had linux thin-clients in play, or if they were home and had a squirrely internet connection. Generally from Windows was solid

From memory equinox needs them to do some architecture changes with their call managers as well, and needed some money to change hands with Avaya so was off the table.

I tried it a long time ago over UDP audio and it sucked. The best way to do it is with the local agents as Ray suggests.

I’m biased coz I use my own and it seems to work pretty well - they are on GitHub - not the prettiest compared to butlers code, and Steven lemonier has some niiice stuff too - mine does what I want every time *shrugs*

Yes. LTSR concept was introduced with 7.6 version.
So it depends of you level of hot fix but I am not sure that vSphere hosting support changed from a 7.6 LTSR to a non LTSR version.

If you can update the VDA you will benefit from it.

We use "Actively changing regions" and it works great for video, i.e. moving images, but I would imagine "entire screen" might be better for static images.  Try both and see what works for you.

<@U023HEDJVH8> I would recommend VDA 2209 with Build to Lossless. We've improved performance quite a bit in 2209, also we build up the screen to Lossless from the mouse cursor outward. ( I work for Citrix engineering)

In our environment the bandwidth requirement was too high for lossless at the entire screen

So policies:
Use video codec: Use when preferred 
Visual quality: build to Lossless
Hardware encoding: Enabled

Also, <@U023HEDJVH8>, what NVIDIA vGPU driver are you using? I would recommend vgpu 13.X or 14.X

We have done more testing and updated VDA and GPU drivers. The only problem now is that the users are only satisfied with the setting Visual Quality: Always lossless. When we set it to Build to lossless the lines become jagged se picture.

Settings as of now (which I assume will work under the best possible connections only)
Visual Quality: Always lossless
Use Video Codec for compression: For entire screen

Few questions / remarks:
• Is this with VDA 2209?
• With Build to Lossless (B2L) we encode moving parts with a video codec, thus you can see compression. But once you stop moving the image is build up lossless. So the jagged lines should not be visible when you do not move anything on the screen.
• Have you tested with setting the Visual Quality to High with the policies I listed earlier ( Use video codec: Use when preferred )
I would not recommend going with Always Lossless, the bandwidth consumption is really high so WFH will not perform well.

Can you share (DM is fine) a video of your issue?

Problem is that I now nothing about CAD and rely on the end user to do the tests. I will se if I can get a video.

So, to make something clear:
The use video codec: Use when preferred is our default mode.

If you DO set: Optimize for 3D Graphics, the preferred mode means: For the Entire Screen

So the policy switches automatically between modes depending on other options you configure :slightly_smiling_face:

But if you can share a video that would be great. I would recommend running RDAnalyzer during the test and show it in the video, so I can directly see which policies are active

Just so that I understand this then. If I enable "*Optimize for 3D Graphics*"  then  whatever setting I put in in "*Use Video Codec for compression"* does not apply? It will always be "For the entire screen" regardless? So I want to test with other settings I will have to actually disable Optimize for 3D, correct?

Does anyone happen to know what registry key the "Desktop Launches" Citrix Policy sets?  Say, I just wanted to set it real quick for a machine to RDP in for testing.

I mean, when they log on to Storefront or NetScaler and they get a list of their resources, how can I organize those apps into subfolders? Using "Application Category" just adds a tag to the base view

They removed folder view but you can kind of bring it back

Not sure you can update storage...you will have to add it to the hosting before to make prove scheme update

Refer to the previous properties Get-ProvScheme -ProvisioningSchemeId &lt;YourProvisioningSchemeId&gt; to understand how the path is set (basically the path to the snapshot itself)

The powershell SDK for on premise uses port 80 per default. This can of course be changed to a different port, but what about encryption? I can't find much information on this, is the powershell traffic between an admin workstation encrypted in some way by default? If not, can this be set in any way? Asking because of a somewhat skiddish security that doesn't like the look of port 80 or any unencrypted traffic for that matter. :slightly_smiling_face:
Edit: This of course also applies to using Citrix Studio, which is more or less powershell anyway...
