This looks like the same thing as on-site, which I expect it would be. Even though the AppID changes, it seems that it also has some "chain" in the registry so that the old AppID continues to work. At least, that's been my experience thus far.

Not sure this is relevant - we have problems with our Surface Pros and WSA. Switch to Receiver 14.9.latest (LTSR on 7.15), and no more problems. We're published desktop, and get constant gray / black screens and disconnected sessions. Wonder if it's a similar problem?

Sounds very similar. Been trying to get away from Receiver if at all possible. But may have to try it and see how it goes.  Thanks!

I have seen this before when the monitor scaling is set above 100% on the client.  

Tried that on ours, still no go. Gray screens everywhere =(

We were trying to force it and running into issues so gave up and let Citrix pass it through.

Does anyone use MCS to provision persistent (differential disk) and static VM with Windows 10? I am interested about the system storage consumption. On my build, it takes 20GB minimum with Windows updates, a few apps updates, etc. In average, per user a .diff disk is ~40GB. What is yours? Thanks!

I would say that the value of 1024 is the proof, that mtu discovery works correctly. Thats why I added this in my custom BGInfo script :wink:. Normal size would be 1500.

Hi all, 
Got a Problem when using RTOP.
FatClient User A calls Citrix User B in a Skype Video call.
A has a 16:9 webcam. B sees only 4:3, edges are cut off.
Uninstalling RTOP on B‘s Citrix Server => B sees all 16:9 content of A.
Can someone confirm this?

Q about Teams and BCR : this all seems to work correctly (camera, incoming audio/video) , except for the microphone. The Teams-redirected- site does not seem to use the mic (although it is listed). For another Audio/video webrtc based website it seems to work, the Microphone settings on my local device even show it is used by hdxbrowsercef.exe process in that case, t does not for Teams. Any idea why Teams does not want to use the same micrphone with BCR ?

We're noticing that with dedicated Win10 VDI and ThinOS that more machines are reporting the "session limit reached" if they reconnect. The only way to clear is to reboot the desktop / log off the session. Has anyone seen this or have a workaround?

I'm testing it now, and it actually _adds_ a black screen for me. I see the desktop 4-5 seconds quicker, but I'm not okay with the transition from the lock screen to a black screen to the desktop.

Ok, I seen that as well. So it may show the desktop quicker but the transition is a black screen.

Users reporting desktop and typing is lagging, then catches up. The ICA RTT is low.

What are the endpoints? CWA version? 
Did you check the MTU size that is being used?

I haven't seen that issue in my QA environment, Ray. My W10 VDAs have the MTU discovery registry key set, and I'm using CWA 2006.1 or greater. We don't have the default.ica modifications set, but that's only because we're still working on another issue.

Haven't check the MTU size, I was hoping the MTU discovery would pick this up. Need to check this. Also need to check the workspace verion for this as well. info is lacking sorry guys

What is the point of MTU discovery, if you still need to hard code the MTU on the ICA in storefront?

lol, I asked the same question. So many oddball requirements.

It's not needed. You need to set that only for client (Linux/Mac/ Old Windows receivers) that don't support the discovery

Hardcoded MTU helps with clients not supporting discovery yet

I still maintain that the VDA registry key should really be a policy.

nope, the CWA needs to support it - for now it’s only built into Windows CWA

So to have a good UX with other clients that don't support MTU Discovery you need to set the fixed value in the default.ica.
This is ignored by clients that support MTU Discovery

Ok, make sense, so enable it, but doesn't mean it will work until the ICA file is modified. Most of my clients are 1911, but we are in a middle of upgrading to 2008 Workspace-App. Or was until the rapid releases of CWA for windows starting happening. To be honest, I have no idea what version is stable now. I have to figure this out soon.

So looks like 2009.6 is the latest for GA (Version: 20.9.6.34 (2009.6))

If you enable it on the VDA it works WITHOUT changing the default.ica. It is controlled by:
• Registry key on the VDA (set it in registry on GM, not with GPO)
• Client (Windows CWA 1911 and later)

Ok, I did it with GPO. So that might be my issue then. OK I understand now, MTU discovery works on CLients that support it. Clients that doesn't support it. You need to modify the defaul.ica file to make it work fully

Yeah I tried with GPO earlier as well but that didn't work out so directly in your master image is the way to go

I asked my Citrix support rep for info on CWA 2009.6. I can't go back to our testing and deployment team and ask them for a fourth time to validate a client.

Thanks guys for clarifying  this. Makes sense now. Yea the CWA release seems like they keep fixing issue and enhancments with teams, and app protection.

No logs on storefront, ddcs, or published desktop

I had that issue not too long ago and it was due to workspace on the vda being upgraded, which caused some of the vda graphics components being replaced. In my case, you would find eventid 6 in Applications and Services logs &gt; Citrix &gt; HostCore &gt; ICA Service &gt; Admin.  The solution was to reinstall VDA.  I have to dig out the CTX article covering this issue though.

Oh, and the description for that event reads "Citrix ICA could not configure Thinwire and switch to the remote ICA display. Rebooting the workstation or logging in at the console will fix this."

it may not be the same issue you are having though.  There are several articles with similar symptoms but different causes.

Adding the key in the article fixed my issue even though the VDA version is 2006.

Do you have something to add <@UMB4XQE79>? At the moment I have been able to establish that the customer is using both the "old" pre XenApp and XenDesktop 7.9 way and the "new" 7.9 and later way of excluding processes, probably not ideal.

I am not 100% if I actually helped answer the question. I only use this when the software goes nuts on CPU and acts crazy/locks up. Then it works if it works on a native desktop as well. Eletrons apps in my experince. I never used this to speed up logins and never heard of that.

With this customer they have both Ivanti and McAfee doing process injection, combined with Citrix, that makes a lot of process injections

You potentially don't have enough memory to start the preparation machine. Once the image is copied, a vm is built and fired up to generalise the image for cloning. This vm failed to start.

Will keep digging.  Memory i have in abundance, hosts are only using about 24% of the available memory.  I think it’s something to do with the fact we resized the machines recently…

I'd need to see your XenServer logs. Are you using GPU? Send a few Screenshot of your template VM. If you watch the provision process in XenCenter you should see it create the PREP machine and it might give you a clue on why it didn't start.

With MCS obv. Server 2016 MC has an issue with boot on demand - user gets black screen which often times out the session.

As far as mutli user, I can try it, but my use case is single user VDI

I spent a couple of hours on it this morning and will go again next week - image preparation phases time out with mcs :-(

Have a customer trying to set it up now.  They are having alot of difficulties syncing all the irght objects form AD but we still are thinking it will work.

They'll both work as long as you  an get the SAML configured with either ADFS or Azure AD, FAS will do the job .

It SAML, you just need additional attributes as Rob says. Basically with SAML you just need common attributes between the environments so it can match them up.

Yep, impact is minimal in this day and age with the remoting protocols being so efficient.

Of course there are special use cases with high latency or very low bandwidth links.

thats kind of what i thought too.....it looks like we still are locking down a basic theme too going back to window 7 and i believe to disable aero on 10.  i'd imagine thats probably safe to ditch too

Yep, I try to keep the desktop as close to a normal PC as possible. So leave all the options enabled

It all depends...If you still have locations that have low bandwidth (think single T1) then maybe you block it there...maybe.  Its not the first thing I would look to disable to tune though especially since users LOVE to customize their background.

I give my users as much freedom as I can to customize things these days.  There’s no longer the need to switch everything off and it just annoys people and gives Citrix a bad name.  We have reached a point where we can focus on user experience and not have to worry so much about performance and user density like we used to.

for anyone that stumbles across this...I ended opening a case with ctx support.  They told me that this was a problem with the license server not being able to communicate with the site database..._(think about that one for a minute)..._I asked them to point me to their documentation that explains the need for the license server to communicate to the site database. I also asked how it was possible that a single license server would be pointed to two seperate databases (for each of my sites).  I was then told that I needed to uninstall and re-install the license server software.  I gave up and ended up just building a new license server on 2019 since the one that was in prod was 2016.  reallocated my licenses to it and that seemed to fix the issue.  So citrix support was kind of helpful...in a round about way.

So the printer is shared already outside of the Citrix session, and then you are using it as well in the Citrix session while its shared on the local machines?

When you try to print in the Citrix session, make sure studio has printer logs setup so you can see what the error is throwing.

While the printer is in the session, are you able to see it in Device and printers on the XA-Server? If so, what properties are you seeing? When you try to print, and it errors out, it should throw the old message about metaframe printers or someting like that in the app event logs. I am sorry, I am not much help on this.

its one of those situation where I have to trouch it so see how it works. USB printers are a nightmare for me.

Does the barcode scanner have a special driver that can use the HDX optimize channel? If you switch to optimized what happens?

Start with why before looking at the storage team, log in on the VMs. Check task manager/perf mon, is there anything obvious consuming resources?

Did that, even an empty clone, just spawned a few minutes ago, is slow.

Customer 1 has a Datacore Storage, and DDC and MCS are on different LUNs
Customer 2 has vSAN and everything in one big LUN.

I wouldn’t focus on storage to start with, chances that you’d have similar slowness on storage in 2 completely different storage solutions are low. Do these environments have anything in common in terms of software? WSUS/AV/backup/anything that runs periodically or contant?

Windows Updates are off, as these are MCS clones. But they would have a smiliar configured WSUS.
AV is identical.
Backup is both Veeam, but not running now.

Yes, that would be obvious. But I have several more Citrix MCS customers, that I install with the same MDT concept, that have the same AV in-place.
But I take a look at AV anyway.

So, it seems to be AV related. I upgrade to the latest AV in a Test Image, and the issue was gone.
I then back-ported the change to the current image and the first two clones are now fast as usual.

If the solution is correct, and I didn’t solve it by doing some hidden IT magic I’m not aware of, ESET FileSecurity 7.0 was causing me issues. ESET 7.1 seemed to be safe. I upgraded to ESET FileSecurity 7.2.

There was a task that finished a year ago, that I removed. After that, I was able to remove it.

I presume for VDI you have configured the idle/disconnect values in a policy in studio as its different for SBC where you set it through the RDS policies. Also take a look at the DG settings you got peak/off peak settings for disconnected sessions so you could say when disconnected 20 mins action = shutdown you can also view the same settings via powershell get-brokerdesktopgroup -name "W10 VDI" and look for the disconnected action timeouts for peak/offpeak

ShutdownDesktopsAfterUse is True (which is default, IIRC)

So this is taking a weird turn. I'm testing this in QA, and if I disconnect from the session using the custom Disconnect shortcut that I created, which just runs *C:\Windows\System32\tsdiscon.exe*, nothing happens. It will remain in the Disconnected state. If I disconnect using the button in the Citrix toolbar, it obeys the policy and logs the user off. This makes no damn sense.

Curious, if these VDA were upgraded or Fresh install? I have seen some VDA upgrades not honor the disconnect timers.

Fresh install. This kind of makes sense, though, as I currently have an issue in WEM where using tsdiscon.exe doesn't work properly. Reconnecting will throw a 'single instance' error if I have the option selected to run the WEM agent on reconnect. I'm trying to pin down what command Citrix is running when you click on Disconnect in the toolbar in ProcMon.

Using tsdiscon.exe is Citrix's own workaround for the lack of the Disconnect option in W10, so I don't understand why it's treating this differently.

Anyone ever use CTXDiscon (<http://www.florisvanderploeg.com/disconnecting-a-citrix-session-with-ctxdiscon/>)? This actually works. I may replace tsdiscon with it.

Did anyone of you’ve also experienced registration issues with Windows server 2016 with VDA 1912 CU1 after applying KB4576750?  There’re also serious connection issues under RDP and finally the machine stops to respond
