What are the best practices for setting goals for engineers woking on client projects in an IT services company? Not setting goals makes it difficult to compare performance while giving bonus and hikes and setting goals is pointless as they primaily work on client demands

Hi Sirisha, Please find a sample or an idea below, Mostly in such cases their key responsibility is delivering the project within SLA and give good experience to customers/clients. You can set their objectives something like below. All below objective should carry a weightage based on criticality Delivery of Projects / Change requests - On time without any slippage - Adherence to methodology / process / templates - Adherence to quality - No ‘urgent’, ‘high’ or ‘medium’ priority tickets during hyper care or post go-live Support: Adherence to SLA based on ticket priority – 100% of the time. Adherence to Support processes including use of tools & templates – 100% of the time. No client escalation Project Rating (Line manger should be able to give them rating based on their performance in the projects. At the time of Appraisal, you can sum up the total and average it.) Sub competencies Adherence to policies Attendance Technical know how Team work etc..,

Thanks @Robert Jackson This is useful but the only catch i see is systemically making the organization focus on the short term - here and now. In the technology industry, spending time on org capability building, up skilling, innovation are also important. For my client, most of their projects are with varying level of complexity - so sometimes adherence to SLAs is an issue and the customers are also cognizant of it Your response is a good base for me to start building a framework. Thanks again.
