Hello HRians, Good morning. I wanted to know is there any policy for period leaves in your organization for female employees? If yes, what is the policy? Thanks in advance.
s
Yes Nirav, we just introduced this eff. April 1 at our company. Any menstruating gender get 1 day per month and it lapses if not used in the same month, in total 12 days in a year and of course no carry forward or encashment
n
Ok, thanks much @Sumana Ananth
s
We used to have 1 period leave but then changed it to wellness leave so anyone can use it. The same as Sumana's company, 1 per month and expires if not used in the month
w
In one of my previous company, it was 15 days as wellness leaves for all employees, irrespective of gender. This included period leaves for female employees.
s
How is wellness leaves different from sick leaves
s
Sick leaves would pertain to any physical sickness whereas wellness leave can pertain to taking a break to take care of your mental health

@Sumana Ananth @Sneha Bantiya how do you answer for whomever this benifits are not applicable, ex, how do you answer why only female employees get this benifits, they may not be asking us directly but how to tackle these kind of situation, how do we have this statement in our policies
s
That was a concern when period leave was introduced and that's why we changed it to wellness leave and made it available to everyone.

We took a different approach launching this, we did not just do it as a single handed benefit launch... we have ERGs in our organisation and were looking for DEI initiatives to launch and we leveraged the Women's Day in 2023 to launch it. In addition, we had the buy in of the leadership and introduced it to all our managers before going fully live.
