Team, have a small query. If an intern's internship ends on 6th April, can we keep his joining date on 7th April (holiday) for the full time role or it should be from 10th April (Monday)?

Hi @Sampurna, here's what I think. It's good to keep the date of joining on a working day, rather than a holiday. While technically it is possible to have it on 7th April, it may not be a great idea to do so. 1. The team will be on leave and the new joiner will be confused as to what to do. 2. The paper work will be delayed, which may not be a good practice. If you have any specific reason in mind or just to understand if you can have the DOJ as 7th April, then yes, you can have it.

10th April - Monday

It should be on 10th April (Monday) but if you are working on 7th April and all the concerned team/people will be available on that day then you can keep it. It's always good to hold your assets. 🙂

The concerned intern is converting to an FTE right? Assuming that the intern will have a full context of the job role and of the organisation I would recommend 7th of April - If this is a conversion you will not treat this as a normal joining since there is no need of onboarding and orientation. However, if context is required and you are treating this as a new entry to the org than you can do 10th

Thanks you all for your inputs. If there is no compliance issue then I feel we should keep the DOJ on 7th April. 1. He has complete understanding of the company, business and job role. 2. Basis induction has been completed and details could be done on Monday. 3. And the primary reason we can help him to get paid for 3 extra days (7th till 9th).

this is a great point @Sampurna

Whatever the intention may be, DOJ as April 10 may just signal trying to save some nominal amount of money

It's good @Sampurna If you are getting a good employee then a nominal amount doesn't make any difference.

ideally to ensure continuity of services, the DOJ should be the next day itself

If April 7 falls on a company holiday, it is not advised to keep that date as the joining date; the compliance officials have previously raised concerns about it. Additionally, gratuity would start on the day the person joined as an intern due to continuity. If necessary, a sum equal to the unpaid days’ salary may be paid as a one-time bonus or joining bonus or others.

That's a great suggestion. Thank you 👍
