Folks, any guidelines to keep in mind while forming an employee committee? In terms of structure, norms, and rules?
w
It will be good to know the purpose of the employee committee to develop structure and norms.

@Wristy We're thinking of a two-fold purpose broadly. • Promote and measure cohesiveness across teams and constantly discover ways to function better together as a distributed team. Includes engaging employees through activities and initiatives + planning with HR for offsites. • Bring up issues for discussion with the management and get buy-in for rolling out changes. (there will be issues which they can tackle autonomously and some they can't) Thoughts?

I suggest doing following as a starter: 1. create brown bag among employees from different teams. Develop a calendar, share it among the team to nominate someone for giving sessions. 2. have virtual coffee chats (fortnightly or monthly, depending on the employee headcount) such as ask me anything with HR. 3. Fun Chat Slack Channel where we ask thought provoking questions for people to answer and engage in conversation 4. Chat with the CEO/President virtually + ask them questions to get to know them better • Music league for lighthearted music competitions 5. Virtual book clubs

Thank you very much. All of these make sense @Wristy. We also included some internal debate/nerdy sessions, monthly task challenges, etc. šŸ˜„ We're also thinking what norms if any, for oversight and autonomy should be given to the committee. It's a relatively small company (54 people) and we'll have a forum of 5 people who can drive these initiatives. We also don't want them to think that they're a substitute for HR and can intervene inadvertently! šŸ˜… I've spec-ed out a guideline doc to be very clear. It's a WIP.
