I have a question. I heard multiple stories about a scam scheme where US citizens are used as proxies for getting a job in the US. Question is, why does someone need a US citizen for work? (Forgive me if this is a noob question). I'm EU/UK based, so I don't know about this problem in particular.
In the U.S. it's very hard to hire foreign nationals. But the compensation in the U.S. is higher than in many other countries.
So they use an actual US citizen as a proxy that applies to the job or they borrow their credentials
Alternatively there is obviously identity theft.

Wow. I never thought that it's this bad. You're right about compensation though. I'm based in the EU but I try to engage with clients in NYC because my city is very cheap to live in.
On a side note, many Americans move in to my city while keeping their remote US jobs 🤣
Thanks by the way for explaining to me.
the incentive and result can be very bad 😞
and I don’t believe they are from north korea if you know what I mean…

I think we need to look at 2 different problems. Problem #1 fraud which has both legal and severe security implications. Problem #2, someone doing multiple jobs at once. Honestly speaking, seeing how humans been treated recently by corporations, I don't blame people doing multiple jobs at once since full time workers are no different anymore from temporary workers.
Now as a person who was born under severe sanctions, employers didn't (and wouldn't) bother to check if am legally eligible to work with them because they don't like to deal with those type of problems which is understandable. However, when people have no legal options, they end up doing illegal things. Now, I personally do not condone or support illegal activities but wanted to highlight the ethical and moral aspects of it 🙂
If Steve Jobs wasn't adopted by the Jobs family, he would have been stuck in Syria and no one heard about him 😁. His biological father is I think from Homs, Syria.
Unrelated, but I want to say that I worked with people from all over the world, I found working with Americans to be the best experience to be honest in terms of communication and cooperation.

It's an interesting point you bring up with Steve Jobs and it just goes to show that success is also a factor of luck and birth place. However in cases like Elon Musk, it's pretty remarkable how he made his own success along the way. It was not a direct shot from Johannesburg to Silicon Valley.
