None, I’m still stuck whenever I get asked to use a list where we can “simply” add new items into. But, if you feel adventurous, I noticed Airtable automatically adds “items” to select inputs when they are added programmatically (through API or through automations). So, you might have a free input that triggers an automation that adds the item into the list, and they wait for stacker to refresh that list. But... I believe it won’t work (unfortunately), it might work on Airtable, but new options are not considered a data change, but a schema change, and thus wouldn’t be reflected into Stacker, IMHO.

Damn, yeah that’s definitely a bummer. I was thinking about doing CSVs (e.g. “rock, indie, 90s band”) and running a script that transform them into select values but you’re right, that doesnt work.
You can do a simple linked field but that’s not really lightweight since you have multiple clicks (“Add New” > “Save”)

Have run into the same issue. Depending on the need (search query versus filtering), I'll either set up a short text field where users can add "keywords" or create a linked field (which involves extra clicks).

Hey folks (@abundant-dinner-65974, @sticky-night-20812, @green-account-75240. I would like to understand this better. Would you essentially want to be able to add new options for multi-select fields? If I got you wrong, could you please give me a few concrete examples of what you would like to do?

Single-select and multi-select. Sometimes we need lists of items that can be changed by the end-users. Today, this is not possible. Use cases vary, you could imagine asking a customer where they heard of you for instance, provide a few well-thought items, while giving the ability to add other choices.

Thank you Ambroise!

If this was possible with Stacker, that would be neat, because it’s not possible with Airtable and I strongly believe Stacker could help us overcome Airtable’s limitation by providing well-thought workarounds, it’d definitely increase the usefulness of Stacker 😉
a
@elegant-eve-85294 pretty much what Ambroise said. It actually is possible in Airtable, though. If you enter a value in a select field that does not exist it gives you an option to add it as a new select value. See attached image. Lots of use cases here but in general, this is something you see across the web in terms of categorization. For example: • ‘Categories’ = pre-defined usually, larger buckets (“T-shirt”, “Shorts”) • ‘Tags’ = lightweight, easy to add, values for searching and indexing (“Loose fit”, “Matches well with White”) My specific use case is pretty much this, just for musicians. I've been trying to hone in on how to categorize musicians in the most useful way and it's goes to pre defined genres (Blues, Rock, etc) and an ever expanding keyword list (new music, local band, etc)

@abundant-dinner-65974 Where did you get that UI where you can add a new option? Is it a form? Interface? 🤔
e
Thank you!
a
@sticky-night-20812 I took the screenshot on mobile but as far as I know it's always been a feature
s
I’ll need to revisit that then, thanks!

@elegant-eve-85294 Would second what @abundant-dinner-65974 said. We need an easy way for users to classify things in ways that make sense to them. One specific use case would be for a library of resources ... in list view, we need a way for users to search terms that match the document (see screenshot). I've set up a single line text field where the person who created the doc can add a list of relevant keywords for searches. However, tags would be easier since they are filter-friendly. But creating new linked records involves too many steps for the user (and takes up Airtable records).

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, folks. I’ve shared them with our product team to consider.

@elegant-eve-85294 so I was looking and this is possible with the Airtable API using the
typecast
parameter. Would be a powerful feature and seems like just a single additional line of code (for airtable at least). Stacker UI: Checkbox for Select Fields: “Allow user to create new value(s)” which promts an “+ add new” option on the list Airtable API:
typecast: true
on the API call if that checkbox is selected. Bam, super light-weight, powerful ‘tagging’

😮 I didn’t know that option! Would be super powerful for us to have that feature in Stacker @gorgeous-queen-48490

Thanks for sharing your findings, @abundant-dinner-65974 @full-jackal-95406 Something for you to consider—a lightweight tagging feature for Airtable. Mike’s last comment suggests that we might be able to create new multi-select entries using the
typecast
attribute.
