We prefer to see more impactful contributions from these kind of organizations, anyway. Fixes and improvements to core and the admin are useful to all stores.
I'm curious what your issues with the starter frontend are though. We're using it and very happy with it. It's already a huge step up from the legacy frontend in many ways (with the exception being extension compatibility.) It might not be the best it can be yet, but the biggest improvement that it makes over the legacy frontend is that it can actually be improved. The legacy frontend stagnated for too long because it was effectively impossible for us to make improvements with breaking existing stores.
