so on new installs this steps need to be taken in any case, correct?

ok, is there a plan to remove these steps in future versions, otherwise also installation instructions need to be revised as this just became a mandatory step

Is this a theoretical question, and if not why would you want to do that? My understanding is that the new gem is intended to replace the old one, so you shouldn't be running both side-by-side, if that's even possible.

You can have both installed, but you can only have one activated.
