Hi there, I am new to this channel and have enjoyed reading through its history. I am starting a development project as a team of two and have found Solidus to be a good starting point for what we want to achieve. We are both fairly new to coding and the main experience we have is from a coding bootcamp. We have spent a fair amount of time researching and trying to learn how to configure Solidus, particularly the backend, but have found things aren’t very intuitive. A lot of times we don’t know where to begin with something we want to achieve and there is very little information or examples online to assist. We are looking for a mentor or someone who can help us along the way to help understand this rails engine better and assist with roadblocks when we are stuck. Is anyone interested in helping us from time to time? For ex. At the moment I am working on simplifying the admin panel and trying to remove the promotions tab and functionality as it wont be used in our backend. I’ve seen a few Deface examples on forums but they’re from 2014 and appear to be outdated.

I definitely encourage you to ask question here or better yet in our GitHub discussions "Troubleshooting" section.* I'll also warn you that customizing Solidus can be difficult if you're not already fairly familiar with Rails. Ecommerce is a complex domain and Solidus is a pretty big and complex codebase for a beginner. That said, our community tries to be as helpful as we can be, and that can go a long way. I personally am not available to mentor you or anything, but I'm always around this channel to answer questions and I hope you find the support you need. sg horns *part of the reason that there's not a good amount of resources online is because questions get answered here in Slack... and then are lost forever since this isn't indexed in any way. That's why we like GitHub Discussions. It saves us from answering questions multiple times.

yeah i also recommending getting pretty comfortable with using
gem info solidus_backend
etc, opening up the gem, and placing breakpoints into the base gem. I used solidus for about a year before i understood how to do that and once i did it was a pretty big game changer

Thank you for the responses @jakemumu @Jared Norman. A question I have for you is whether you believe Solidus is an appropriate starting point for my team. As stated we are beginner developers, and we are essentially creating a web application that displays a products information from a physical QR Code Scan. Solidus seems like a great starting point as the backend admin panel / database is already constructed. The main functionality we need as of right now is Product creation and rendering. As we build out the application we want to have multi vendors who would be able to log into their own admin panel / store database and upload products + generate QR codes for their store as they please. This means that for now the “Orders”, “Promotions”, “Stock” tabs functionality is not required. Based on this information do you think Solidus is too complex for what we need. Note: I’ve been trying to disable the Orders tab and have had no luck. Is there a simple solution to removing this tab and functionality?

Building a full ecomm solution from scratch is almost always a worse idea than using an existing solution and Solidus is very customizable, so I think it's probably a good fit in that sense. I'd use roles to disable the Orders tab. If you created a role that didn't have any view access to orders, the tab shouldn't display.

Hi @Jared Norman. I’ve been playing around with roles and the work great. The main issue im having right now its reconfiguring the routes and making it so that the product tab opens by default when using the admin dashboard. Now that i’ve disable other tabs the dashboard looks like the attached screenshot. I can still access the product tab but im getting this “Authorization Failure” message. Any suggestions?

There might be a way to hook into devise or something to tell it where the user is supposed to go after sign in.
