Great stuff @thdxr, can someone explain to me why NFTs are even a thing? I mean, as an example, I know they are one of a kind for the NFTs you created for these icon videos. But what is to stop someone from creating identical videos in another NFT. At that point it’s really just the fact that whomever buys “yours” can authentically prove it’s the one you created. But then, what is to stop you from creating 50x more copies of the same videos but setup as unique NFTs each time. What proves to the buyer that the seller isn’t going to do that?
Sorry, but I’m sure I don’t “get” NFTs

NFTs exist in a space where there's not much logic applied but is still valid: vanity. People pay full price for designer limited edition items even though there are cheaper knock offs so that they can say they had the original
NFTs just tap into that same emotion. Definitely not for everyone and I think especially engineers who are really focused on building using logic day to day it feels really strange
I would never spend a $1 on a pure nft but I also see how people spend $1000s

Very interesting and crazy.

Okay so…, I’m not sure that I’m all in on NFTs by any stretch but lets imagine an interesting scenario We make a community called
serverless halp
where we allow 500 developers max in. You have to auth by having an NFT (of which there are 500). The more helpful, useful and awesome the community the more demand there is to join the community. If you’re not getting value out of the community, you’re incentivized to sell your NFT. If however, you’re using the community you’re now incentivized to keep the community useful and good. Now the community has value that’s shared by its members. Perhaps the community goes on to create some non transferable tokes too, for letting members in who did something valuable outside the community but maybe don’t want to buy in (like maybe they write a book).

Yeah NFTs that unlock access to something are interesting because they're immediately trad-able without having to build a platform to trade them
Your scenario sounds similar to this: https://twitter.com/ShaanVP/status/1437808708998688774

Nice! Yeah I never thought of this as a use case but love it!
