Who is a champion and Why specifically champions: A champion is someone who can help influence software procurement at larger orgs. They have the availability and willingness to share info (such as tools/technology that they use, roadmap, priorities, vendor management, and current challenges) were staff/principal engineers or Director+. They may not be the ultimate decision maker, especially from the economic standpoint, but they were the gateway to finding those final decision makers. That's what led me to call those personas Champions. A bit about me: I was a technical founder who raised 1.5M for my previous database startup and struggled to find our champions/design partners. Random LinkedIn connection requests, sneaky DMs, asking intros from Investors, and cold emails are the best solution. Why am I doing this?: I was obsessed with the problem of why it had to be this way. If I need to find and connect with say 5 SRE leaders or 3 Principal Automation engineers either I have to cold email or go to my friends and family or have a huge network.
