This has been happening since the last 2-3 weeks.
p
Nope. Is it happening across campaigns or specific campaigns? Also, are you running campaigns on broad match?
i
This is happening with 2 accounts across ~40% of our campaigns. We don't have amy ads using broad match here.
A lot of these Google ad campaigns have been live for 4-6 months where we weren't seeing such search terms pop up before.
In 2-3 instances, the matches are really weird. Extreme example: keyword could be "HR management software", and the search term we see could be "Darwinbox Software" (Not actual keyword and search term)
No changes made recently to a lot of these campaigns, auto suggest changes are obviously off too.

Ah, interesting. Google is giving intent-based search terms. I have faced this problem once when the generic searches are less when compared to any particular brand searches (For example Email Marketing Software has fewer searches when compared to Mailchimp). The solution in our case was to add them to the campaign-specific negative list. You can have a look at which keywords are triggering those search terms (using google studio). And then add them to the negative list.
We were able to reduce it by doing daily optimisations (for us it took about two weeks) might vary depending the volumes.

Interesting. Yeah, we've added negatives and curbed this within 1-2 days of the search terms popping up. Still curious- if anyone else is seeing a spike similar to this recently.
p
Let me know if you find out any other cause for it. An interesting problem to solve 🙂

Yes and no! We can’t control much over here. Even if you add negatives etc and if you’ve max conversions, troas , tcpa bid stratgies. Algo will try to find the right prospect into your auction instead of serving to the exact keyword you bid on.
i
Yeah, but have you seen an increase in this recently?
s
Yes!
