Curious if publishing pages on a subdomain (lp.domain) has advantages over subfolder (domain/lp)

@Raveesh Motlani - if we were to take the SEO route, trust we should stick to subfolder approach. But I have personally seen only 10% of the landing pages in domain format. Mostly it was sub-domain approach. This might be because marketing can easily publish and make changes instead of depending upon central web team. But, this is from tech and internal standpoint. From visibility and other external benefits point of view, would love for others to weigh in their thoughts!
