Hello, we are using open source version with self-hosted Data Plane and Cloud-based Control Plane for the last couple of years. 2 weeks ago we began receiving 1M events limit notifications and now we are blocked from our Management Console. The system says that we have exceeded 1M events from free plan and forces us to upgrade. But we are using self-hosted community RudderStack! What happens and how to fix it?

Hey There! 👋 Your message has been received by the RudderStack team. We will forward this request to your Technical Account Manager, and they will get back to you shortly. Please use the thread for any additional comments.

That is expected. Earlier the free limit was higher and it was changed to 1M a few months back. The 1M limit will reset every month.

@quiet-wolf-72320 hi! but this effectively blocks our Open Source deployment mode of the app. You made it so that Transforms are not available in the Control Plane Lite and we are using hosted plane just to fetch configuration for Data Plane. So you are not processing anything for us. Why are you blocking the community usage ??
q
You are on Rudderstack Free tier that allows 1M events per month free. It has all the latest features of control plane that are linked to your self-hosted data plane. If you want to use a higher volume with all the features, then you should upgrade to a paid plan based on your event volume. If you don’t need all the features and want to use open source, you can switch your control plane to open source too. Here is the doc https://www.rudderstack.com/docs/get-started/rudderstack-open-source/control-plane-lite/ Here is a comparison of features (cloud vs open source ) to make a decision on what is best for you. https://www.rudderstack.com/docs/get-started/cloud-vs-open-source/
I have unlocked your access to UI for now but if you exceed the event volume above 1M before 2023-06-11, you will be locked out again and we won’t be able to help.

@quiet-wolf-72320 thanks! but if we are using our own self-hosted AWS resources to process the main load of events, why are we supposed to pay the full amount for 1m+ events? I can understand why we were to pay 600 USD if we were using you cloud capacity - but effectively we are not doing it.
q
As I mentioned, You are using Free tier which is RudderStack cloud. You have the option to switch to open source. Details are in the doc that I have shared above.

Hi Vladimir, to clarify you don't need to pay for events sent through your self hosted data plane. Your console access is blocked because you have exceeded the limit on the cloud data plane. There is a "Rudder cloud test" segment source in your account, which has ingested 1M+ events in the last 4 weeks using Rudderstack's data plane

@limited-morning-82054 oh, thanks for noticing that! we might have created a loop accidentally there … it is time to remove segment once and for all 😉

Thank you @limited-morning-82054
