When you configure PII redaction categories in your agent's security settings, the system detects and removes sensitive information from multiple data types [(1) ](<https://docs.retellai.com/accounts/privacy-disable>) :

**For recordings**: Audio is replaced with a beep over the PII intervals, and the scrubbed version is surfaced as `scrubbed_recording_url` .

**For transcripts**: User and agent utterances have PII replaced with category-numbered placeholders like `[email 1]` or `[person name 2]` [(1) ](<https://docs.retellai.com/accounts/privacy-disable>) [(2) ](<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSMG0Z5GA3k>) .

The redaction also extends to public logs, dynamic variables, metadata, call analysis, tool call arguments and results, DTMF digits, and SMS message text [(1) ](<https://docs.retellai.com/accounts/privacy-disable>) .
