@AI Evy I have an outbound AI agent that only has the US as the allowed outbound country. However, I noticed that any phone numbers with area codes that relate to Puerto Rico and the U.S. virgin islands results in my HTTP request to create an outbound call giving an error, which states "Country is not in the allowed outbound country list for this phone number." I understand there may be a need to differentiate the US territories from the US, but is there any way to include them in the list for allowed outbound countries? I can not seem to find them.

Thanks for tagging me @Goopa Snoops. I'll look through relevant sources and get back to you shortly.
### Answer Based on the available documentation, the
allowed_outbound_country_list
field uses ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country codes [(1) ]() [(2) ]() . The documentation shows examples like
["US", "CA"]
for the United States and Canada . I don't have specific information in the sources about how U.S. territories like Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands are handled in the allowed outbound country list, or whether they require separate country codes beyond "US". For U.S. territories that may require special handling, I recommend reaching out to Retell AI support directly, as this appears to be a specific configuration question not covered in the available documentation. You could also try checking if there are specific ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 codes for these territories (such as "PR" for Puerto Rico or "VI" for U.S. Virgin Islands) that need to be added to your
allowed_outbound_country_list
alongside "US".

@AI Evy I decided to remove the US from alllowed outbound countries to see what would happen and I instead get this error "Call country not supported: PR". Does this mean that any calls to phone numbers with Puerto Rican area codes are not supported?

Thanks for the follow-up, @Goopa Snoops. I'll get back to you soon.
### Answer Based on the error message you're seeing ("Call country not supported: PR") , it appears that Puerto Rico (PR) is being treated as a separate country code from the United States (US) in Retell AI's system [(1) ]() . The
allowed_outbound_country_list
field accepts ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country codes [(2) ]() [(3) ]() . While the documentation shows examples like
["US", "CA"]
, it doesn't explicitly list which territories or country codes are supported for outbound calling. To configure allowed outbound countries via API, you would use [(3) ]() :
Copy code
json
{
  "allowed_outbound_country_list": ["US", "CA"]
}
However, the specific error "Call country not supported: PR" suggests that even if you add "PR" to your allowed list, Puerto Rico may not be a supported destination for outbound calls through Retell AI's telephony infrastructure. This is different from simply being restricted by your allowed country list—it indicates a platform-level limitation. I recommend contacting Retell AI support directly to: 1. Confirm whether Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands are supported destinations for outbound calls 2. If supported, get the correct country codes to add to your
allowed_outbound_country_list
3. If not currently supported, inquire about potential workarounds or future support Check out these potentially useful sources: [Import Phone Number]() , [Create Phone Number]() , [Fraud Protection]()
