@AI Evy two questions about automating or shortcutting some things: -I have several custom functions that I've created on one of my agents. Is there a way to make these available to multiple other agents that already exist? -If I plan to spin up agents for many of my clients, is there a way to do it programmatically to ensure all required settings are there every time? And what is the best way to organize these? separate folders? separate workspaces? Thanks!

Thanks for tagging me @teezecrost. I'll look through relevant sources and get back to you shortly.

### Answer Great questions! Here's what I can share: 1. Sharing Custom Functions Across Agents Based on the available sources, there isn't a built-in feature to share or copy custom functions between existing agents directly. Custom functions are configured per-agent in the dashboard by adding them in the tools section. [(1) ]() You would need to recreate the function configuration (name, description, endpoint URL, headers, parameters, etc.) on each agent individually. However, since custom functions call your external endpoint, you can point multiple agents to the same backend URL—so the actual logic is reusable on your server side. 2. Programmatic Agent Creation Yes, you can create agents programmatically via the Retell API. The platform supports programmatic agent creation to build, test, and deploy agents into production using the API. [(2) ]() This allows you to ensure consistent settings across all agents you spin up for clients. 3. Organizing Agents for Multiple Clients You have two main options: - **Folders**: You can organize demo and production agents using folders within a workspace. - **Workspaces**: The Workspace feature allows you to create different organizations for your clients. From a community perspective, using separate workspaces is recommended for organizing different companies because it makes organizing everything easier, billing is simpler, and there's no additional cost. [(3) ]() For agencies managing multiple clients, separate workspaces per client is generally the preferred approach. [(2) ]() [(3) ]()

@AI Evy can i also use the retell API to alter an existing agent? For example, to add a custom function to a newly/recently created agent?
a
Thanks for the follow-up, @teezecrost. I'll get back to you soon.
### Answer Yes, the Retell API supports updating existing agents. The Conversation Flow API allows you to create and manage conversation flows programmatically, and there's also API access to custom functions. [(1) ]() However, the available sources don't provide the exact endpoint or request body structure for adding a custom function to an existing agent via API. The changelog mentions that the Conversation Flow API gives you "API access to MCP, Warm Transfer, and Agent Swap all in one update" and that you can "create and manage conversation flows programmatically." For the specific API endpoint and parameters to update an agent with custom functions, I'd recommend checking: - [Create Conversation Flow docs]() - The Retell API reference for update agent endpoints There was also a community request to extend the Create Agent API to support including custom webhook functions automatically during agent creation via a
general_tools
array, but this was noted as a feature request rather than existing functionality. [(2) ]() Would you like me to try to provide a general answer based on typical REST API patterns, or would you prefer to check the official API reference documentation directly?
