Folks, what are some good websites to compare salaries for a role across companies, location etc.? Free or paid, both would work. I know about glassdoor, payscale, leyels.fyi and ambitionbox, so please suggest anything apart from these if you know. Thanks šŸ™‚

The discrepancy is very high across all these sites. Only Glassdoor comes close to the actual numbers +-20%.

Thanks @mysterious-ability-21557, its good but it doesn't have the option to compare against companies.

compare salaries for a role across companies
This is a fool's errand. Role names across companies are mostly meaningless. For the same role name, the responsibilities (and work-culture) vary significantly even between 2 teams in the same company.

Appreciate your inputs, but I am not looking for "exact" salaries, but a mere guess what the ballpark might be.

To clarify further, i have seen that • a Senior Software Engineer at a certain MNC X. • and has the same responsibilities as a CTO at another startup Y. • and both these roles are significantly laid-back compared to responsibilities/expectations from a Senior Software Engineer at MNC Z. So trying to compare salaries/compensations of X and Z will not give you the correct insight. Rather comparing X and Y is apt (based on responsibilities, not roles). ---- If you are looking for accurate compensation for a specific role, at a specific company and location, in my experience levels.fyi has been accurate (if it has that company/role/location).
(at the risk of being completely off-topic, here's something more) If one is job-hunting, one thing to remember is NOT to label oneself based on one's past/current roles. Identify your skills (technical/non-technical) and the responsibilities you are comfortable handling (or are seeking) and looks for job descriptions that match them. I know a couple of "hardware engineers" who are better at coding than most software engineers. Essentially they develop in-house verification tools and GUIs for the rest of the HW-developers in their team. These so-called "hardware engineers" get to work of lot of exciting problems owning entire tool-suites, unlike some other "software engineers" who might spend 2-weeks deciding the right color and size of a rounded OK button. Plus they are also very respected in their team/org as they are one of 2-3 in the entire team who knows how to do what they do. So, yes they are advantages of not limiting oneself to some standard role/designation.

Yes @chilly-rocket-77832, I understand your point. However, I didn't provide the full context regarding why I need this kind of data (and I cant since this activity is for one our projects). We tried procuring the salary data from a few vendors, but it is either too expensive or not useful. Hence I thought maybe there is something else that someone from the community might know off and is useful for my usecase.

Ah i see. Sounds like a very useful project/product you are working on. šŸ™‚šŸ‘šŸ¼ Will definitely help to have a single place to check, instead of 4-5 different sites.
