Going to India next week to speak to students at an event in New Delhi. I’m going to make it a bit inspiring: sharing my personal story. What do you wish college students in India knew in the context of programming and remote work, that you feel they don’t?

They’re all great points, but I was looking for something specific to Indian students

As someone in a tier 2 college, I wish I had known more about cutting edge technologies (ML AI/ AR VR/ bio tech), and the importance of doing some side projects that excite me. Although It's been 3 years since I was a student, things have certainly changed now.

I am late to reply but I have some few points, 1. The importance of various options available to them instead of taking the regular job. A comparison of say life at redhat, at TCS, or at any remote company or at Google. 2. The impact of open source contribution and your online presence. 3. Factors affecting work satisfaction. i.e. Salary is not the only factor for deciding your job.

Far too many Indians are prevented from doing useful work because they never learned to express themselves. Contrary to general belief, writing isn’t something that only “writers” do; writing is a basic skill for getting through life. Yet most Indian are terrified of writing.
I wish I had realized this early in my career 🙂
