What are your thoughts on this twitter thread about tech workers unionizing. Even Angel List had it as their main story on their newsletter this week :thinking_face:

&gt; I don’t know about that. All the experience I have with Unions has been negative. I’ve worked in a few unionized factories/warehouses while in high school/college, and it all has been negative. Some union workers should have been fired a long time ago, but aren’t because they are in a Union. They get all these benefits and end up becoming too comfortable with their job which result in laziness and a bad work ethic. Its too difficult to fire Union workers which is a problem in many places. At least in my experience.

I see the same thing happen in neighbouring Bengal. Unions just did not work.

But I still hope this time it will be different. What do you think ?

IMHO, Unions lead to inefficiencies only when the business lacks competition (i.e. govt-supported monopolies). In healthy sectors, there would be plenty of incentive to stay efficient - while protecting the workers' rights.

Fair point !! People generally show better decision making skills when the basic needs are taken care of.
