Hey Tribe, I want to run a quick poll using emojis (Use ๐Ÿ“ or ๐Ÿ‘พ). ๐Ÿค” If I had to clone a product for the new home of the RI community, which one would you prefer. ๐Ÿ“ Forum based website like Indiehacker, Dev.to ๐Ÿ‘พ Chat-based community like Slack, Discord Also, feel free to share additional thoughts in the thread ๐Ÿงต

We could do both! There are a bunch of use cases that cover both forms of communication

I've personally noticed that I tend to forget about forum based websites and spend less time there due to the friction involved in participating in discussions. Slack, Discord on the other hand are really quick and easy to use.

One alternative that works both ways is Circle.so They already have an iOS app

Should we support anonymous questions? (questions only). For people who would hesitate to share specific details but would like the opinions of RI users.

can have both. faqs can be on the forum. chats for ephemeral conversations

โ˜๐Ÿฝ I was thinking the same. FIRC, tax guides, interviews, webinars etc on Website. All discussions on slack.
m
FIRC should have a separate forum for itself ๐Ÿ˜‚

Some recurring conversations: โ€ข taxation (44AD, GST) โ€ข insurance โ€ข receiving money โ€ข Equipment purchases (laptop/monitor/desk)
back in my forum-ing days, we would have a specific thread which served as a chat replacement ๐Ÿ˜‚

Discord is honestly the best platform. It's free, unlimited, and has none of the freemium nonsense like Slack does. And the paid features (Discord Nitro) are 100% non essential. My only problem was that Threads weren't available on it, but as of today, it's a live feature.

I like Indiehacker's layout ๐Ÿ™‚

Forums have a tendency to become unmanageable and needs lots of moderation to keep functioning, IMO. And you might have to wade through pages and pages of discussion to get the answers you're seeking. That is a reason stackoverflow became popular overnight - the relevant answers floated to the top. Real-time chat + summary blogs/FAQs for burning topics would be a good balance for the kind of issues discussed here, IMO. People should be able to submit changes to the FAQs (some wiki or markdown based platform - github pages?) but changes should be approved by chosen maintainers to maintain quality of content.
