In classic Google fashion, they automatically upgraded their Backup and Sync tool to the new Google Drive tool without ever asking for my permission and it no longer allows syncing individual folders. Is there a way to go back to Backup and Sync? Any help please? My entire workflow relies on the Backup and Sync tool 😭
m
they have been telling since several months Backup & sync will be deprecated and removed and will switch to the new one
f
Yes, but I wasn't expecting them to auto-upgrade without my permission. I thought it would be more like "Backup and Sync is deprecated and new client will take its place. You can update to the new client or keep using the old one but it wouldn't be updated" Google has removed any links for downloading the old client too 😪

Google's sync client has been garbage, not sure how the new one is, but I've been using Insync for past 2 years to manage Google Drive, OneDrive, and now Dropbox, all from a single desktop client, and it even supports symlinks.

You can use rclone with cron to keep your folders manually synced with GDrive. I use it for Dropbox as I use symlinks. Will start using it for GDrive as well after my Backup And Sync auto-updates.

they do everything like this in android if you sign in to youtube you cant sign out to do so you need to unistall updates .

InSync is great like Kushal said. I use that as well.

I'm able to backup individual folders...
f
Yes backing up individual folders from system to Drive is fine. But you can't sync individual folders in drive to system. That's a crucial part of my workflow. I got Insync. Works well and it is also crossplatform

@faint-energy-11966 we can actually. on ur pc where the folder is streamed you can right click and select offline access. I know they messed up the terminology here
