Has anyone used nobroker.in for packing/moving? They said all the right things on call, explained in detail etc. But could just be trained for that I did like their claim that they would use their own team end-to-end - no 3rd party, no tips will be requested etc
Also spoke with Agarwal. Weird dheela attitude - maybe since I'm in a tier 2 city. I don't have a lot of items. Made a list with surveyor. But final quote had extra items and many many units of some items.

I found nobroker.in overpriced.

A friend of mine used nobroker for moving. They used a 3rd party service and it was definitely not their team end to end. This was a couple months back in Mumbai. I had taken quotes from nobroker while I was moving and I found their rates to be competitive, wasn't too expensive. I had taken quotes from around 5-6 different packers back then including Agarwal

I have found a good deal with https://www.shiftingwale.com/ I am relocating this Sunday. If you can wait till Sunday, I can give you review post that 😅

One thing to note: Most services tell the estimated price WITHOUT the taxes or insurance. (unless you ask). I got to know about the tax amount after they had collected my items, and they gave me the invoice. I found NoBroker to be transparent about all the costs from the beginning.

Yeah nobroker were clear on pricing. Move amount plus 3% insurance on declared value. They offered some 'discount' on the insurance based on certain valuation slabs. But overall their pricing seemed still expensive, just 1 tier below Agarwal.
They used a 3rd party service and it was definitely not their team end to end.
Well, that's a bummer. On my call the lady gave me some insight on their ops. I'm moving from Mysore to Noida - I asked if they had a local presence in a small city like Mysore. She said they do but only for local moves. For inter-city moves, a team from Bangalore would arrive and take the items to BLR, where it would be loaded on a shared container.
Also spoke with a local mover - small business guy - owner himself came. He said they would pack everything nicely and use a (initially undisclosable) 3rd party cargo service to do the interstate move and unload. Price was almost half of nobroker/Agarwal 😕
p
Beware of these local movers. When I got my stuff, I found few items missing and broken. There is nothing much you can do except going again and again to their place. After a while you get tired and forget about it.

Try to get a local packer/mover after looking through their list on Google maps and going with the most reliable one you can find. If none are highly rated, only then I would consider a popular aggregator like NoBroker. Be agile when they are packing to make sure they pack everything well. This is important as sometimes their workers will deem an item as something that should not be tightly packed, but you know that is not the case. Eg - in my case, a worker didn’t seal a container that had detergent. The container’s lid was loose and it spilled over. I think he didn’t knew the container’s lid was loose, but I did, and I failed to mention that. So, it helps to be very active when they are packing. After this, the only risk is if they steal something, but this shouldn’t happen if they have been around for some time and are highly rated.

The Google Maps approach is quite difficult these days. There seems to be a proliferation of small businesses using fake reviews providers. 😞 It looks so obvious. Hundreds of reviews, ratings of 4.9 or full 5.0, similar text patterns.
The nobroker quote wasn't too horrible by itself. It's the insurance addition that makes it out of reach 😩 I guess the risk and the 3rd party aspect would be from the cargo provider they use, but not sure.

We used nobroker for intra-city within BLR and it was outsourced. AFAIK, they don't have "own people" in any city. That's not their business model

I've gone with nobroker. May Odin watch over me.

God damn sales people 😞 After booking I get info about a 3rd party partner - A Trans Logistics who would handle the move. Discussed with assigned movement manager and of course he says this is how it is and not to worry, these are 5 star rated partners.
d
If you're not confident, you can ask them to cancel and refund. It will be a little tedious to jump through the hoops but better than being unsure.

I'm going to continue out of urgency. This still the best seeming option I have out of all I spoke with. At least I have some dedicated movement manager fwiw. And I was told about insurance claim process in detail. Only other contender was a local guy with good local reviews but he would hand off to some 3rd party for interstate. 🤞

Shiftingwale - ❌ A strict no-no.

Sorry to hear 😕 I also didn't have the best experience with nobroker. The sales lady and later the movement manager promised me 'premium' packing with foam blankets for major appliances but in the end was just bubble wrap, and that too mostly single, sometimes double layer of wrapping. Also had to pay 5k (down from 7k) extra to the partner for going above the allotted 10 carton limit... Expecting delivery tomorrow or day after. Hope I get everything.

My 2 kitchen boxes were upside down, thus spilling all thing over. Also, they took 80 RS./box extra as a deposit to keep the box for few days. But now they are not taking back the boxes.
r
@ripe-lifeguard-68237 the box deposit amount is a common trick it seems. They took 900rs from us like that. But I was able to sell them to a "newspaper recycle wala" for 500rs, so net loss was only 400rs.

Ahh! New scam everyday
