What's your take? I don't see this a necessarily a bad take https://world.hey.com/dhh/programmers-should-stop-celebrating-incompetence-de1a4725

I agree with it 100%. Not exactly sure what the fuss is about this

The world needs good programmers and superficial learning wont help you much after a point. There's a point after which stackoverflow alone would stop helping you as such and you'd need to dig deeper to get better or solve harder problems. Now not everyone wants to keep getting better but then thats a different thing altogether.
I guess the issue is that it was posted by DHH. And depending on who you're talking to he's either loved or hated. Hence this kinda response on whatever he posts. 🤷

Every problem starts with "I have no idea what I am doing" and ends at "I can make the computer do exactly what I ask it to do!" Doesn't matter which skill level you are at. That's the relatable thing, not incompetence. I like DHH, but in this case, he kinda built a straw man and tore it down.

IDK man, I’m skeptical of his take. I think people do get imposter syndrome because sometimes this shit is actually hard. For example, right now, I’m trying to write a plugin for a library whose documentation is lackluster, and has 10k loc of giant blob in a single file, none documented. Man I’m having imposter syndrome for that. Does it mean that I don’t know what I’m doing ? Yes lol But does it mean that I don’t know how to code, think logically, and design software? Off course not. What I’m getting at is that just because people are experiencing imposter syndrome doesn’t necessarily mean they’re incompetent. Also, I think we’re not celebrating imposter syndrome, rather people are just trying to fit in. That’s called empathy and not celebrating incompetence. Tbh I’ve never met a “clueless gang of copy-pasta pirates” team. Off course there are bad apples, but aren’t they in any other field?

I agree with idea shared by DHH. The only think I don't like about him is the tone. Maybe that's why people hate it so much. But the idea of copy-paste programmer is true. I've seens people who just not only copy-paste from stack overflow but in there own codebase itself which creates a lot of duplicate code and later become a mess. I think we are talking about two things here. 1. Imposter syndrome : which can happen in any profession 2. Copy-paste programmer : blindly copying stuff. This also related to the lacking of growth mindset which @powerful-planet-56851 mentioned. Not going deeper. Because it's a hard work and not easy. My 2 cent from the post is to not celebrate copy-paste programmer by saying "It's fine we all do this" instead we should say "It's fine until we know what we are doing and what consequences it can have in the future"
