Hello peeps, we are planning to buy a new scooty and I was considering to try out one of the new generation of electric scooters out there.. anyone has any first or second hand experiences to share in general or any unexpected pros and cons. TIA 🙂

I ride a Hero Optima when I go back home Pros: 1. Amazingly quiet 2. Cheap running cost and less maintenance 3. Good acceleration (might feel sudden when you switch from a conventional scooter) Cons: 1. Limited range (so can't go for long rides) 2. Long term battery degradation (we don't really know much about this, but in the long run [5-10 years] the battery capacity will reduce and in turn the range) In essence, I feel EV two-wheelers are a good buy if your use-case is mostly city riding. If you want to do longer trips (70km+) on weekends stick to petrol vehicles.

Not to be cynical, but please be aware of them catching fires. I spoke about the same to one of my friends who is an electrical engineer and is currently working in the manufacturing industry, (he has good knowledge about these), according to him what's happening is, because of the influx of heavy cash into start-up's in the past 3 years, more so in EV sector, lot of them "entrepreneurs" are registering companies with limited workforce and ordering cheap parts from China and assembling them here just so that the bike can work and then pocketing the profits using the govt subsidies and moving on without any proper testing and future service of the bikes. So please do thorough research before buying one. I wanted to take one for my mom as well but dropped the idea after hearing this.

Thanks for the input guys.. I wasn't too concerned for th fire thing coz would have bought something like aether or chetak ie known brands only.. someone whose any fire incident would have surfaced. But seems like multiple concerns for electric scooties i have gathered from videos as well.. will likely go for a petrol one for now
