Hey #tribe, I am looking for some guidance with respect to changing my roles / growth paths. I have been working as a software developer for about ~6 years now. Working with Hyperverge for about 2 years. My interest to get some steps closer to working with clients / business stakeholders has only been increasing. After my recent visit to meet our biggest chaotic money lending client in Vietnam, I am even more excited about such possibilities. My past experiences have been with very early stage startups ( team size <10) which naturally offered me opportunities to wear multiple hats and not just engineering problem solving and building. Want to know if someone has done such changes/ shift of lanes ? Anything in similar lines that would help be take a better and informed decision for the same ? Not sure if this is the right channel for this question - please suggest if there a more appropriate channel for it. I have intentionally not mentioned any specifics here as I am hoping to get more possibilities of such paths and not limited to what I am aware of already . Thanks in advance to whoever chooses to address this 🙏 ✌️

Few questions to better understand your previous experience: • Have you managed engineers as their lead? • Have you worked with strong/good PMs? • Have you been in projects where tech, design and PM are equal partners and owners of the product direction? • Have you taken decisions or played role of a CTO in few projects? These are slightly leading questions, but can point to few potential directions

@loud-artist-61521 - to answer in brief • Yes, • Not enough, • Yes, • Yes
In reference to : https://remoteindian.slack.com/archives/CFKUPJZ7W/p1653474484248079 @wide-carpet-65149 - I resonate with your views on this. I wanted to gain similar understanding from RI community as well. Before making any decisions on this I want to have better understanding of what all is out there that can fit me or excite me.

I am not sure what you want to optimize for your next roles. Few high level directions that are different from your past experience on one or multiple dimensions: 1. Building your own product / company 2. Joining as a technical founder or CTO 3. You scaling with the org i.e. taking roles in post Series A etc startups with rapidly expanding project scope and headcount. Roles like VP Engineering, Dr Engineering etc 4. Taking up team lead etc roles where you don’t code actively but take part in decision making with Sr. PM’s on a larger product charter. 5. Moving to companies that work on problems/sectors you are genuinely excited about 6. Taking up partial or full Product related work in your job I think 1 and 2 would be very personal choices. 3 and 4 would give you perspective on how larger/scale companies work. 5 is if your are just bored with everything. 6 is to add flavor to your current role.
