Hey folks, How does an absolute beginner in kubernetes learn it? Use case: Just need to run a kubernetes user yaml to be able to access a server is that a thing? I am an absolute noob

Usually you start with YAML and a container runtime(Eg. docker) then if you are using Kubernetes as a service(AKS, EKS etc) you need to learn things specific to it. When it comes to kubernetes, you should learn about Pod, Deployment, Daemon set etc. Using Kubernetes to access a server hosting a Container image to run it using Kubernetes is a thing.

Before anything specific, I generally give people this as the first video to watch on k8s. This is the one I'd watched and decided to use it for our company.

PS: Ask Samar as well, he went through a crash course-ish learning experience himself recently. Feel free to ping me if you want to schedule a call for Adori specific things 🙂

On a similar vein I'd like to ask folks how they put k8s into perspective coming fresh out of college with zero experience in ops? I really struggled with it in college and it wasn't until I saw it being used in the workplace that it put into perspective for me what problems it solves for orgs (spoiler: they're more for solving organizational problems than technical ones, in my exp) Also it wasn't until I took a distributed systems course in last sem that I actually understood cluster computing (it was a 💡 moment) During college I racked my brains going through videos on YT (I never really rely on videos so this was a last resort kinda thing for me) to understand k8s and lots of videos focused on technical aspects (kube api server etc.) than big picture stuff. My problem was more about why k8s than how

With 0 context, someone would not even know what a deployment (even to a VM) really means or how is it different from local, what a LB is, why all of it is even necessary. If someone understands that much then the easiest way to explain the why behind Kubernetes is quicker scalability because of the decoupling. You can watch the first 5 minutes of the video I posted above to get a very high level picture of "why Kubernetes" from one of the og authors.
